Do you think a good quality gaming show could still work on TV?
I`m currently researching ideas, and wondering why on earth there isn`t a good gaming programme on terristrial TV? We know that formats like Gamesmaster DID work in the past, so why not now?
I mean maybe it just wouldn`t work, maybe it can`t work. But there`s surely an audience for it, right? I`m thinking that the problem just lies with the format, but I was just wondering what you guys think.
Would you watch a good quality gaming based show on a weekly basis?

Have you ever seen consolevania? New series started, season 3, I`d not seen any until a mate told me about it. It`s basically a couple of of scottish guys who like games and make their own show about them, they are f***ing around most of the time but its very funny. Not for kids though but its fine for the older more mature gamer. ;)
Watch ep 1 of the new season, here`s the torrent:

RE: Do you think a good quality gaming show could still work on TV?
what you want is something like videoGaiden brought to you by the ppl that do Consolevania :)
I watch gamer on Bravo every week, that is quite good.
I used to to think that there should be more tv coverage, but with the days of pc broadband, and xbox live it`s not so necessary. gamespot alone uploads a dozen or so new videos every day for all formats, some are trailers from the dev co, some are interviews, some are video reviews etc, so you can pick and choose what games you`re interested and what formats.
I think maybe the problem is, it has to be either live, or recorded that week, otherwise anyone who watches it, has heard most of the news already. At the moment Bravo are showing some of their "Game.tv guide to...." most were good and interesting when they were 1st shown, unless you`ve seen the reviews, but they showed some at the weekend, about what to look forward to when PS3 is launched etc which aren`t worth watching again, and even for a newbie might not have that much interest.
Gamer.tv looks like it is recorded weekly, or maybe they record 2 every fortnight, cos it is quite up to date with its news.

I`ve been trying to track that down for a watch, cheers Jackal, I`ll take a look now.
What would you want to see in a gaming show? I`m talking about a show for 18+ that would go out at a primetime. Kind of like The Gadget Show I guess, but for games. Personally I can`t stand those competition type shows, where a couple of kids have a one on one on Street Fighter or something.

Interesting points, cheers guys.
Another thing that bothers me are the hosts on these shows. It`s finding that fine line between patronising and serious. Gadget Show works because it doesn`t treat the audience like a mug (too much).

they got close to trying that with Bits, 3 girls(Aleks Krotoski , Emily `Bouff` Booth, and Emily Newton Dunn), Aleks knew about games, but that show was terrible, should have just let Aleks do the talking, and the other 2 should have been gagged.
Aleks did thumb bandits with Ian Lee on channel 4, had 1 series I think that was ok, was late night, and they both were into games, that def helps!
I watched the gadget show once, the format was OK, but the male presenter was perhaps the most patronising man on earth, and put me off it. Agreed that I don`t want to see gameville style battle of the teenages at fifa.
gamezville was ok for what it was, i.e. a games show aimed at kids, rubbish for adults though.
There was that Violet Berlin one years ago, Bad Influence that was a kids show but ok, I was a uni student at the time and watched it.
you can watch episodes of gamer and its spin offs here
