Page 1 of Newbie for 360 - Core worth it?
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Saw this in Argos today - not in the main catalogue but in on the updated prices laminates above the main catalogues.
"Save £20
Xbox 360 Core System
+Fusion Frenzy 2
+Pinata game (can`t remember exact title)"
I`m guessing this is a good deal?
Sorry I`m brand new to the whole 360 thing but will deffo be getting Halo 3. Would I be wasting my time getting a Core system - I`m not entirely sure why I would need a hard drive at the minute? Is it to save games?
Any advice/info for a 360 newbie would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yep, you`ll need it to save games. Unless you buy a memory card, which is about £20??
You also need a hard drive if you want to be downloading the free demos of games (maybe for the Xbox Live Arcarde games aswell, I`m not sure how big those actually are).

And for game updates, add ons and patches, If you don`t ever want to go online get a core otherwise get a premium or better still an elite. DONT BUY A CORE ITS A FALSE ECONOMY you will want to go online and then you will have to buy a seperate HD (£60) then the core only comes with a wired controller too, the others with a wireless controller.

the 1 advatange I see, is that you have to buy a hd extra, so when the console goes wrong, you`d just send the core bits, so you`d keep the hard drive and then not lose your saves etc.

not an advantage, cos you don`t return the hd if you gotta send it back :)
live is a must if you get a 360, so personaly, unless it`s a second machine, or your getting it hacked don`t bother with the core :)

Plus if your like me, you might actually have a hard drive in it when it comes back, even though you took yours out as instructed before you sent it off :D

Following this with interest as I myself have just got a 360 core.
I agree, you will want to go online with this, so I think worth paying the bit extra for the premium.
Quick question - if I bought a wireless controller, will it just work, or do I have to buy a dongle or something to plug into the console?

Geez "when the console goes wrong"? Is it that bad? Have you all had hardware failures - is it a certainty?
And thanks for the replies, y`know this may sound stupid to you, but everything I`ve read (including you guys) points to getting a Premium system but.. I really don`t see the point!
I have no broadband for a start nor do i plan to get it in future - and who cares about wireless controllers really? It`s just unnecessary isn`t it?
The hard drive would be nice, and I know I`d have to shell out extra for a smaller memory card anyway, but if (when?) it goes wrong anyway(!!) at least I`d have my game saves backed up. So it has it`s advantages, no?
Will I really regret getting a Core?

You need broadband to take it online, so guess you won`t be doing that.
A decent sized memory card will hold your game saves, you won`t be able to get updates & patches if you`re not online... so I see no need for the HD. I reckon the core`s for you. You`ll need to buy another controller though if you wanna play with ya mates!
