Wii Internet Channel now Free!

Anyone still Wii-ing on this forum?

If so, you`ll find a message from Nintendo making your blue light throb tonight. As of today, the Internet Channel is free to all, plus there`s an update with a new improved version of Flash.

Anyone, like me, who has paid 500 points for it in the past, will be sent a further message towards the end of October or early November, offering them any 500 point NES game of their choice from the Virtual Console as a refund.

As far as I can tell, that`s the offer. a NES title, which is a bit disappointing, as I would have preferred the points just simply being creditted to my balance to use on whatever I want.

But still, it`s better than nothing.

I`ve downloaded the update. The new channel is smaller than before. 253 blocks is replaced by 218 blocks. I haven`t yet tried it to see how much better it is with flash compatibility.

Thank you Sue. I rarely use the channel except for streaming videos. Now what can I spend my points on. Any wii console or virtual console game recommendations. Anyone got The Blob?

You`ll have to open the message and install the new channel update.

Then in a month or so, they`ll send another message offering you a free NES title. Unfortunately you have to wait until then, and it has to be a NES game, nothing else.

It`s nice of them to give us a bit of a refund, I found the internet channel rather poor and slow. At the time (and subsequently on the DS) I just thought it was the underpowered device that was the problem. But the iphone can`t be that much more powerful than a Wii surely, and that manages it fine.

Great news,

I have been meaning to get it since we first got our Wii but keep forgetting to buy a points card when we are out & about. Will update now.....

Looking forward to the new F1 game, although I`m very tempted to get a new X-Box now that the Elite price has dropped, reluctantly sold our old one when times were hard last year.

We are using the Wii less now although we did have a few hours on Raving Rabbids TV over the weekend. It started gathering dust as soon as we got the kids DS`s last Christmas.

All the best

Gerald.

Glad it`s good news to some of you, anyway. I`ve always got on with the Internet Channel ok, to be honest, Robert. Have you tried it lately? Might have improved since you last dabbled with it.

Oh, and I hope you don`t mind, but I thought I`d post a link to my blog about getting the most from the Internet Channel, for anyone that it might benefit:

Apologies for the inaccurate info about the expected update - it is explained int he comments that this turned out to be a hoax last year.

I`m sure they`ll sort it out between them.

I`ll wait until they sort out the iplayer issue before I upgrade then.

Sue - got some great online games links from your wiitalk page - cheers.

One question though - how do you bookmark on the wii browser?

You can add to the favourites list. I haven`t done it for ages, but I`m sure if you click on the favourites icon at the bottom, it allows you to save the current page viewed.
