XBOX controller on PC, best way?

RJS (undefined) posted this on Saturday, 15th September 2012, 12:03

Or do I mean best cheapest way? :)

My brother gave me his RROD XBOX 360, which has one wireless controller with it. And occasionally I end up playing a PC game which supports such a controller, or a gamepad would be useful for.

So... what is the best way to do it? I`ve seen cheap wireless adapters on ebay, but my previous experience with Wii motion plus copies makes me nervous about just trying one.

Should I give up and just buy a wired controller for the PC? Or are these cheap wireless ones any good?

Actually I`m not even sure about how you recharge the controller, does it just have AA batteries in it? It`s in the loft so not easy to check.

I`ve got an official wired xbox 360 for my pc, you can buy the wireless one as well, which if you buy the for pc package comes with the wireless dongle for your pc.

As you say on ebay you can buy the dongle, but MS don`t off er the dongle on its own :(

on another forum some-one said they`ve used this

for ages no problem.

Fix the 360 and stop farting about with PC gaming? LOL
There`s an actual Xbox 360 controller for PC but it`s about £27, saw it in the Argos catalogue a few days back looking at bits for a couple I`m trying to fix.

As to the recharging, it takes two AA batteries which you can use normal, rechargeables or you can buy a "special" rechargeable pack for them at about £10 to £12.

I`ve got my two working, now I gotta find decent working DVD drives for them :-/

The day I want to just play FPS games, I`ll fix the xbox. :) Actually I got one of those replacement X mount things for the chip and that made no real difference. It works for a while then dies with a RROD.

Cheers ad, I`ll grab one of those. :)

Good to know about the AAs too Jimbo, was worried I`d need some kind of special charger cradle.

I think there`s more to it than just the X Clamp (mate is right into repairing them) but can`t say for definite.
I bought a wireless pad from Game at £24.99 and it comes with the 2 AAs but the charger kit is seperate, from being able to plug it into a USB cable (£12ish) to recharge to removing the back and swapping the 2 AA batteries (£9 Costco for about 24 of them or rechargables almost anywhere for about 3 or 4 quid per pair) I think I`ll stick to using charged up AA`s I have already!

;)

There is a wireless receiver for the PC, I`ve got one here & it works perfectly.

Had an issue with Grand Theft Auto, the original, as it used keyboard controls, then found Xpadder which will convert Xbox controller movements into keyboard buttons.

Don`t laugh.

Please don`t laugh.

I got a wireless receiver off ebay, like the one admars linked, it came a few days ago. Went into the loft, got down the xbox 360 box, opened it up, just a console.

I guess my brother kept the controller. :)
