Laser on PS3 slim gone - sony refurbishment or buy a new super slim?
My slim is the 120gb model - I had a technician look at it and he says it needs a new laser - costing 100 euro - I`m in Ireland. Rang Sony and they will give me a refurbished on for 120 euro. Anyone had a refurb from Sony? What condition are they in - do they last? Should I just get the new Super Slim?
Any help greatly appreciated.

You can get the wee superslim one now for around £140 sometimes with a game bundle so I`d say sell it on Fleabay for parts and buy a new one with a new warranty, can`t be too much of a difference in £ to Euro.
You need to buy some kind of bracket to add a bigger hard drive but AFAIK it`s quite cheap.
Mate of mine just gave me his old Slim cos he bought his son a superslim one, 120 gig and still working ok due to my 80Gb phatty going pop.
Woulda been interested in parts meself but shipping from Oirland probably gonna make it too expensive ;)

Hi - thanks for the idea - I would never have thought of buying a 12gb cheap and upgrading hard drive.
Any idea where I could get one for the 140 price you mentioned above?

Will my hard drive from my 120gb slim fit in the super slim? Do I need to buy a caddy? Googled it and can`t find a direct answer.

I don`t know all the answers and obviously being in Ireland could make a difference but AFAIK:
They were £140 on Amazon, Sainsburys and Tesco recently.
Sainsburys actually had a good deal instore where it came with two top titles (can`t remember which cos I had a pal on the phone telling me when my phatty had just gone) and kept it at the £140 price tag so worth a check.
AFAIK the hard drive is still a 2.5" SATA so yes, your 120 should fit but it will need a (again, afaik) "bracket" which may be the new name for the caddy.
http://www.sainsburysentertainment.co.uk/en/Games/PS3/PlayStation-3-12GB-Console-With-God-Of-War-Ascension/product.html?product=E11242587 also avaialble without the game but £149.. bit of a no brainer.
There`s a ton of other packages on there too with things like COD: Ghosts pre order.

And the "bracket" according to the reviews:

Thank you so much for both the idea and the link - picked a 12gb up today in Argos for 170. Any suggestions on where to buy a bigger hard drive?

Literally anywhere but needs to be a 5200rpm iirc.
Your old 120 not big enough for ya then?

Its grand for the moment but I had the slim since launch so I`m thinking it might be best to add a fresh drive. where do you normally buy your drives - I don`t want to pay a fortune but I don`t want one that is likely to fail either. Thanks
