Page 1 of Philips pw9616 feedback

On a recent separate posting I was asked for opinion on my 28" 9616 which I have recently bought, and have hesitated because it replaced a 14yr. Toshiba! and my new kit is the total of my `home cinema` experience!!! hence I have little to compare it with but still here goes...
I bought the tv based on researching as many reviews as possible and also noting several awards (EISA-and individual magazines) and without a doubt I am very pleased with the purchase, particularly general picture quality and sound. The wireless speakers are also a great benefit because I would have difficulty with discretely hardwiring rear speakers.

I`ve seen comments about 100hz v. 50hz. and digital scan etc etc and about the only thing I would mention is that on some sporting events, (particularly football) in the long-distance (extremes of the pitch) the grassed areas seem a bit `painted` ,although whenever viewing closer action the detail is fine. All in all I do not consider it a problem to distract from the overall quality of the set, and there seem to be ample tweeks/adjustments to picture/sound quality. As such, there are many combinations and I am not sure if I have mastered it yet. Similarly, I don`t think that I have mastered the four scart(twoRGB) and front S-video connection to full potential yet, although with advice received on this board I am still trying.
So all in all, we are all very pleased with the set, (even the wife,) and it has provided a brilliant one-stop entry to home cinema for us, and we now wonder why we waited so long!!!!

Yes,. thanks MFC999. I`ll definitely get a look at the 32 inch version. Could be exactly what I need (after I`ve mugged the Bank Manager).

I have recently ordered the 32PW9616 (they were quite short in supply), along with a Sony 536 DVD player, so can let you know how it performs if you want. I actually did quite a bit of research on price/perform/features, and the Philips came out top.

I hope it will worth the hard-earned pennies!

Incidently, I paid £1200, which was the cheapest I could find in stock before xmas, from http://www.jonesofoakwood.co.uk - Pretty good prices really, although not linked anywhere (found it from an altavista search!).

Well, it arrived okay, together with a Sony DVD player.

And in a word - Excellent! The zoom modes work superbly, so even normal 4:3 pictures look good. The `Natural Motion` mode in 100Hz really does remove any ghosting of images that I have seen on other 100 Hz televisions (like the Sony 32FX60 ).

Teletext is dual screen and excellent - it takes about 10 seconds to get the info, rather than 2 mins on my old system.

And the sound is top notch - the dolby digital on the Matrix was lively and well propotioned around the room.

So in conclusion - it should be a great christmas, provided I don`t eat too much and end up as wide as the telly!

(BTW, There is a possible connectivity problem if you don`t have a DVD player with a pass-through. On my setup, SCART1 (RGB) feeds the DVD and Sky Digibox on pass-through. Digital sound has go with Ext1 also. SCART2 has my SVHS video (only SVHS port, although it has RGB as well). I don`t used 3 & 4, and use the front SVHS port for the video camera. )
