For all Miyazaki Hayao and general Anime fans out there

I accidently stumbled across a gem a couple of days ago. A site offering most of Miyazaki`s films in double feature DVD sets (two films on each) for only $12.95 each, they also have a box set with all of them on for $79.95. They`re region free so no need to worry about them not being able to play or anything. I`ve seen a review of the DVD`s and I`m assured they are excellent quality in Japanese language with English subtitles. The site is animedvdweb.com . If you`re a fan of Miyazaki (creator of Princess Mononoke etc.) or anime in general, I urge all of you to get them.

I have one of these and they are from the wonderful world of Hong Kong. This means that the subtitles are WAY out of sync and can use dodgy English. If you want my advice, get the official Japanese ones as they are cheap (for a Japanese DVD), and have a bonus disc.

I agree, if you like Miyazaki`s films you need to go for the original Japanese Studio Ghibli releases of his films, they are far superior to the Hong Kong releases of his films.

I recommend....

My Neighbor Totoro
My Neighbor Yamadas
Kiki,s Delivery Service
Porco Rosso
Whispers of the Heart
Princess Mononoke

Spirited Away is also going to be releases in a couple of weeks and is supposed to be his best work yet.

Here is a couple of direct comparisons of the Hong Kong and Japanese releases of the same film......

I`ve been sent the DVD`s now, and watched Nausicaa (which is superb by the way) and the quality is actually pretty damn good for a film of its age, the subtitles aren`t too bad either, a bit out of sync at times, but not too much and the use of English isn`t as bad as others I`ve seen. However, I don`t think these are from Hong Kong, they`re region 0 not region 3 like in the reviews you showed me, I have to say they look pirated to me, but they`ve done a damn good job if they are.

Got the Studio Ghibli 6 disk box set from Ebay, 2 movies on each disk. Got it a month back and only partway through the 4th disk. Excellent transfers and pro logic tracks.

All the movies I`ve seen so far have excellent storylines and more than a match for many a Hollywood `classic`
