Update:- HELP!!!! Converting .avi to DivX??? Any tips?
I know this isn`t the right kind of forum for this type of thing, but I thought someone might be able to help.
I`ve downloaded a DivX film too large to put onto CD, and I want to take it off my PC as its using up valuable space. I want to basically convert the film to SVCD so I can not only run it on my DVD player, but put it on 2 CD`s also.
I`ve not got loads of time to mess around with it so I want something simple and straightforward. So, can anyone help, or offer advice? It`s very muc appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!!

An avi file IS generally a DIVX.
See vcdhelp.com
For converting into SVCD, I personally use TMPGEnc to reencode as SVCD and split it and then author using Nero. For info, obviously depending on film length, SVCD`s often go onto 3 discs.

Thanks for all your help. Converted the film to SVCD last night using TMPGEnc.
Still got a couple of questions tho!! (lol)
1.) What screen size should I typically convert it to. I use PAL 16:9 (I think) and it looks a little bit too squeezed. The film is actually a DVD Rip, so is already Widescreen anyway. Any ideas?
2.)You said I could cut it on Nero, but how do I do it exactly? Is there a specific tool for it?
Thanks in advance!
RE: Converting .avi to DivX??? Any tips?
For the last week I have been trying to convert a DivX .avi file to SVCD for playback on my DVD player.
Have been using TMPGEnc using just about every different setting, but the final .mpeg is always out of sync. So I then tried Virtual Dub, to get a seperate .wav file.
The frame rate of the film is 29.97fps (its actually "Chasing Amy - DVD
Rip", and the strange thing is, is that sometime when I play it back (on Realplayer) the finished .mpeg file is in sync, and then seconds later the same file is out of sync, in exactly the same spot! Also if I watch it through, the beginning is in sync, and then a few minutes on in the film its totally out of sync.
I have tried putting it on to SVCD using Nero and created a nice menu, etc, and when it played, the film was tiny, and was in the top left of the screen rather than the normal way it should be viewed!!!
Argghhh!!!! Please, please please, someone help me! Need advice desperately as my g/f is getting annoyed at how much time I`m spending on the PC trying to do this!!! I`m desperate so I thank anyone in advance!!
Thanks!!!
The file is a DivX Codec 4.12 file, with a 512 x 224 screen size.
