I once bumped into Ronnie Irani in a takeaway in Danbury. Maybe he`s walking funny because he had a particularly violent vindaloo that night.....

The situation has really only arisen because the Govt said it didn`t think that they should play.

If the Govt doesn`t want them to play, it should order the ECB not to send a team and agree to underwrite the several million pounds which the ECB will be liable to pay when it is sued for breach of contract.

If it`s not prepared to do that (which appears to be the case), it should shut up and leave the ECB to its own devices. The Govt is, at best, inconsistent - it didn`t complain when England toured Pakistan two years ago, did it? Pakistan was at that time headed by a military dictator with a dubious record on human rights and a government of which parts are believed to be closetly supporting and assisting Islamic fundamentalist terrorist groups.

The Govt can`t apply "moral" pressure and expect anyone to take it seriously unless it is prepared to put its money where its mouth is.

It`s not the Government`s money. It`s OUR money. And I would rather it was spent on hospitals and schools than on subsidising the ECB (and I`m a cricket fanatic.)

FWIW, I agree, Mix Man.

My point was rather that that grinning buffoon Blair and his minions should have simply kept out of it to start with and left the ECB to make a decision on its own.

I`m not suggesting that taxpayers`s money be used to subsidise the ECB but rather that the government should stick to doing what it is supposed to do rather than trying to "lean" on the ECB but not actually having the balls to formally tell it what to do.

I know the following are not cricket players but your assertion that England has become a joke seems to be based on some misguided ideas that national identity has something to do with a persons colour or ethnic background. Good job some smart alec in the royal family changed their name to Windsor rather than Saxe-Coburg or whatever it used to be.

All coloured players that have represented England on hundreds of occasions and in many tournaments. Many have scored vital goals for your England but apparently they are not worthy "English" simply due to the fact that they "Aint White" Or am I missing the point!! of your post.
John Barnes was subjected to some of the vilest criticism most of us will ever see/hear on any sporting terrace. Not because he played badly but simply because he played badly and was black.
