Catch Me If You Can

Expecting a good caper film, under the direction of one of my favourite directors, starring one of my favourite actors (Hanks, not DiCaprio, whom is normally very irritating), I went to see this yesterday.

I was not diappointed. CMIYC is a very absorbing film, with appeal to many, plus first-rate action and some nice twists and turns along the way.

The 60s setting fits the tone perfectly, and Spielberg uses this well. Luckily, DiCaprio is not irritating at all in this, and shows some real emotions (instead of shouting a lot in Titanic), and Hanks` role backs him up well.

Told in a disjointed narrative, it keeps the viewer guessing, and the pace, apart from a 10 minute blip in the middle, is very good.

If you liked the trailer, then this does actually deliver what you hoped for. One to want on DVD.

BTW - this is a 12A, classified after 1 January 2003, meaning it has the new, `cool`, symbol. Hence, the title screen before every film where it has the BBFC info + certificate has been spruced up too, and looks much better. Just thought I`d share that...

Yeah, saw this last week. I thought it was great. I don`t have anything against DiCaprio even though Titantic was s***. But this is his best film to date and shows that his stale turn in Gangs Of New York was just an off day.

I would also say this is Spielberg`s most outright fun film to date.

While it was a good film i was seriously disappointed by the camera work, maybe i`ve just been spoiled by things like Road to Perdition and Gangs of NY but to be honest i expected more from Spielberg. Don`t get me wrong i thought it was a good film and really enjoyed it (except DiCaprio should never be allowed to grow a `beard` ever, in his last 2 films there`s something attatched to his face akin to what 14 year-old schoolboys have because they think it`s cool.) but really didn`t find anything Spielbergian to it, it kind of shows that he just stepped in at the last minute to save it from sinking without a trace and losing Dreamworks shedloads of money.

I agree with you Rich, Catch me if you can is a very good movie and Decaprio`s performance is much better then you would expect. Great job by Steven S. directing another masterpiece!

SPOILERS!

A breezy, unfussy film which left me... breezy and unfussed... mission accomplished I guess.

Spielberg`s continuing Oedipal angst and John William`s transparent Mancini score were a bit much, although I do agree that DiCaprio, who is overly maligned as it is, is undeniably suited to this role; Christopher Walken was also fantastic as Abagnale`s father. Although it claims to be based on true events, I find it highly unlikely that you can escape through to a plane`s landing gear through the toilet.

The magic of film.

Seen this movie last night....... thought it was ok.

I personally think Dicaprio`s best performance was in Gilbert Grape.

They shot this movie in 56 days which is unlike Speilberg, but I think he was in auto-direct mode as it wasn`t really a great challenge for someone of his ability.

Still ok, although I didn`t think Walken`s performance was in the same league as Paul Newman in Road to Perdition.

Oh and where was City of God in the oscar nom`s?????????
Finally decided that the Oscars are a load of sh*te!!!!
