Pc problem - hellllllllllppppp
I`ve just bought a new mainboard and chip and have a problem with the computer shutting down and re-booting also i`ve had just blank screens or a blank screen and series of beeps from the pc?
motherboard
ECS K7S5A
chip
AMD XP 2000+
memory
256 ddr
graphics card
Geforce 3 ti200
It`s not an overheating problem as the chip is running at 54 degrees
I have read that you can have this problem depending on the psu, i`m running a q-tec 400watt and wondering if i should change it to a 550 watt psu.
anyone had this problem with this board or can offer any help as i`m at breaking point
cheers

How Many Beeps ?
Basically this is a primative way of telling you youve got a hardware problem. The beeps correlate to different peices of hardware.
Generally this type of problem is memory related but until you say how many beeps i cant be sure.

It might be your graphics card go to their web site and get the latest drivers and make sure that you are using the latest version of Directx.
Steve..
RE: Pc problem - hellllllllllppppp
Thanks for the advice,i have the latest drivers.
I have not downloaded directx 9 yet as from what i understand it`s mainly for radeon cards.
a mate of mine is popping down tomorrow with a 550 watt psu and i shall try that first and report back.
i have found whilst testing last night that if i remove my modem the computer works perfectly in any application i open, which is leading me towards either a duff modem or the psu is just not capable of supplying the power i need?

A 400 watt PSU should be more than enough unless you`re running multiple HDDs or RAID disk array and CDROMs/CDRWs.
If the computer is not booting at all, and you`re just getting a blank screen/beeps then resetting, it`s your Graphics card. Basically, you haven`t slotted it in properly - AGP cards are a bit of a nighmare to push in properly, since the contacts are so close together.
Just take the card out, and push it back in again - only this time, make sure all the pins are lined up perfectly, and you push it in with even pressure accross the card.

OK, maybe I should read the whole thread before replying :)
I assume you`re using Wincrap XPoo? Update the drivers for ALL the hardware - including the motherboard (should be able to download the latest from www.ecs.com.tw). If you`ve just updated the mobo and cpu without reinstalling Wintoss (9cak or XPoo), then it tends to throw its toys out of the pram and sulk. It seems to have a particular problem in understanding what a modem is.
NEVER rely on the generic Winarse drivers - always go for the latest manufacturers` software updates - unlike MicroFartSuckers, they generally have a better idea of what hardware is and how it works.
It may still be wise to physically reinstall your graphics card however, as per my previous post, just in case.

Whatever makes you say that, sj? Lol
RE: Pc problem - hellllllllllppppp
Right o.k just to update.
I tried a 550 watt power supply, but did not work and the computer still crashed.
tried a geforce2 card and that also did not work.
i tried one more thing and that was to install win xp pro (i was on 98)
BINGO?
system is working great, which leads me to think that 98 is missing something that xp has, maybe there`s a file to download that supports win 98 but i could not find one?
Thank you to everyone that has offered help.
and now i`m happy after messing about for a week and a half
