Aiwa setup

Rover (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 4th January 2001, 20:22

Yes I know this has been mentioned before, but I`m a bit thick so I haven`t got it yet. :0) Sorry.

It is `Auto\NTSC\PAL setup` issue time again.

I have an old Sony TV (10years) which is pre-nicam, but still stereo. Now I was expecting to have to set my player to PAL with pseudo PAL switched on to play R1 disks. A done deal, I thought.

Unfortunately, or not, as it happens I can play them on PAL at the back, Pseudo PAL ON; PAL at the back, Pseudo PAL OFF; NTSC at the back; and Auto at the back. So now I`m confused.

If I select PAL\Pseudo PAL OFF the screen squashes fractionally vertically - I assume this is a line resolution issue. So should not be used?

So should I just set it to auto for all disks, or set it to NTSC for NTSC disks and PAL, Pseudo OFF, for PAL disks?

Please explain this to me - I am trying to get it, honest.

I have another query too...

I put The Patriot (R1) disk in my 370, set to Auto Region, expecting it to fail and force me to set it as Region 1. I thought it was an RCE disk (is that the correct terminology?). Anyway it worked fine.. just started up as normal! Joy! Should this of happened?

Thanks Guys,

R.

Thats the correct setting, remember NTSC has less lines than PAL so expect a smaller picture on a ten year old set.
If the TV is NTSC capable, then set to AUTO, but if R1`s play black and white, set it back to PAL.
(with pseudo off)

Yep, `cause the Aiwa`s unbeatable with a disc! lol

Anyways...now I`ve screwed my player up by trying to do this macro thing all night..I`m off to bed!

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!
(didn`t really screw it up...well, I did, but I got it back again! lol)
