OK, so who`s your favourite actor/actress? I`m not talking about eye candy - I`m talking real good character actors, and not people like Tom Cruise and George Clooney, who make a good job of playing the same character in every film.
My two-penneth:
Brad Pitt - excellent actor. Just compare his characters in Seven, Twelve Monkeys, Kalifornia, The Mexican and Fight Club to name a few.
Morgan Freeman - again, an excellent actor, if a little samey with his characters (Seven, Shawshank Redemption)
Bruce Willis - used to think he was just a `beat-em-up` guy, but was good in Sixth Sense and Unbreakable (shame Unbreakable was crap!).
Arnie (only joking - love his films, can`t act to save his life).
Don`t know about the actresses - Nicole Kidman, Catherine Zeta Jones, Meg Ryan, Michelle Pfieffer - all good actresses, but none stand out like the guys above.
Thoughts?
RE: Favourite actor / actress
My Favorites actors are JOHN CUSACK , BRUCE WILLIS , HARRISON FORD and I would say HELEN HUNT , MEG RYAN for the ladies .
Fav actress is probably Jodie Foster, but thats purely on talent.
Fav actor is probably Jack Nicholson or Nicolas Cage or Ewan McGregor or...
For eye candy I would say Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Kirsten Dunst, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon...
Yes, I agree with chewie2001 about Nic Cage - can`t wait for Adaptation to hit DVD). Also, I`d plum for Gerard Depardieu.
Now, women? I was impressed with Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich after not really rating her previously. But my pick would be Marisa Tomei (for eye candy as well!). Oh, that reminds me.........Joe Pesci too (no, not for eye candy value!).
....James Gandolfini, Geez this could be a long thread on my replys alone!
For actors it has to be Morgan Freeman.
For actresses..............well I cant say for sure.
Also I like Vin Diesel`s work and am looking forward to A Man Apart.
Favourite Actor is Tom Cruise.
No he does not play the same character in every film.
Look at Magnolia, Minority Report, Interview With A Vampire, Rain Man,
Born On The Fourth Of July, Jerry Maguire, A Few Good Men, Legend
In my opinion, there is no actor as versatile as him. People like De Niro and Pacino always play the same sort of character whilst they are excellent at doing so, they lack the versatility.
I am also a fan of Tobey Maguire.
Tobey still has some way to go as he has not made that many movies but his performances in Wonder Boys and The Cider House Rules were Marvellous. Also I cannot picture anyone else playing Peter Parker so well.
No real actresses strike me as being particularly good at their jobs but I thought Nicole Kidman was good in The Others

Me thinks James Stewart was bloody good!
Point taken about Tom Cruise... some of those I haven`t seen, but yeah, the characters are different. I`m just not a huge fan...
That`s what got me about Brad Pitt. We saw Seven, Twelve Monkeys and Kalifornia within a few weeks, and I was just blown away by how good all the characters were, even though they were all so different.
Natalie Portman.... oh yes :-)
Gene Hackman. My opinion of Brad Pitt`s acting ability has increased a hell of a lot over the last few years too.
Jodie Foster + Nicole Kidman.
