CD Autochanger - Where to buy?

gordyffc (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 2nd April 2003, 13:03

Hi folks,

the missus has decided she wants a CD Autochanger for the boot of the car. Anybody bought one recently? or can someone point me in the right direction of a decent make/model.

Cheers
Gordy

Sorry if I sound patronising Gordy but can your acutal headunit in the car run an autochanger cos if not then you need a complete package also the make of the autochanger has to be the same make as the headunit which limits your choice

Try http://www.edworthys.co.uk/

I bought A sony Minidisc Headunit and 10 disc Autochanger from here. i think it cost me about £260. if id got it from Halfords it would have been twice that. Delivery was also impressive. Ordered it on a sunday night.. tuesday morning it had arrived.

Highly recomend this place!

We got a Kenwood head unit and changer package from a little electrical shop in Stockport for £180. That was about the same price as the edworthy site quoted, and similar to a couple of other places on the web.

As for compatibility, if you already have a head unit that came with the car, it may support a changer - our Seat has a head unit marked up as a `Seat` but which is actually a Grundig. The manufacturer should be able to help if it`s not marked up.

BTW, when I had a changer fitted, they fitted it under the passenger seat. It`s well hidden, easy to get to to change disks, and is better than the boot for skips as it`s between the axles and not directly over one. I`ve fitted another there, since, and had no problems. Just make sure you don`t screw through the brake pipes when you screw it to the floor (luckily, not speaking from experience!).

Thanks for the replies folks.

I think the head unit I have is ok, it`s a Sony XR-5800R.

Cheers
