Football can be such a cruel sport

Today a team which has dominated its league for most of the season, played exciting, attacking football and are already Division Champions, play their last game at the ground they have occupied since 1880.

A huge turnout was obviously hoping to see a farewell win for this top team.
Sadly the Bairns ( Falkirk F.C.) held a 2-1 lead until the 80th minute when the visitors, Caledonian Thistle were inconsiderate enough to score twice in three minutes to take the points.

Now temporarily homeless and with no decision on whether they will be allowed promotion to the SPL, even neutrals observers like myself feel Falkirk have been given the sh*tty end of the stick..

You do the job well and get kicked in the teeth right at the end, a bit like life I suppose.

I hope it turns out well in the end for them and their devoted fans.

I also hope things turn out well for Falkirk, particularly as I am a fan of "Big Yogi" ...........but.........they have had five years to get their stadium situation sorted out. Nevertheless, here`s wishing them well.

Cheers, Marty :-)

My son and myself and a few of my mates were at the game on Saturday, as usual, and TBH I felt quite sad at the final whistle.
Yes we won the league.
Yes we lost only one game at home.
Yes we won the league with games to spare.
Yes the team were magnificent over the whole season.
Yes we scored a shed load of goals.
Yes we had one of the the biggest crowds in Scotland on Saturday.
Yes we have a great home and travelling support.
However magnificent all of these things are I still feel sad that my son, my mates , myself and hundreds others will never again be able to stand in the Cooperage Lane or the Hope Street end end and watch our beloved Falkirk.

Yes Brockville is a dump.
Yes the bogs are awful.
Yes we need better surroundings for the fans.
But, and it is a very big BUT, the atmosphere at Brockville is far better than many "Bigger " clubs who have stadia with 10,000+ seats.
The old saying "An empty (or half empty) vessel makes more sound" is disproved in the SPL.
There are many people who are listening to the guff that some "Journalists" spout about how much we have spent on players or "We should have been in the 2nd division .
Or even more guff like "You cannot change the rules half way through a season". Tell that to the Motherwell team that were kept in the SPL through reorganisation in the early 80`s when there was the very real chance that they would fold if relegated.
If there is a team that at the very least deserves a little sympathy from the sphincters in charge of the SPL then that team is Falkirk.
Relegated from the Premier league when third bottom.
Denied promotion when 2nd top of the 1st division. Not once but a few times. These were changes made during the seasons.
We may or may not be accepted to the SPL but IMHO the decision has been made. We will be in the 1st division next year as after all Motherwell look doomed and yet they will be allowed to vote on whether there should be relegation. Turkeys/Vote/Christmas etc.
I would like to post for any Fifers :-) on line, thanks for your clubs support in our attempt to get to the SPL.
Your club and the supporters are what matter . Considering the rivalry that exists between Falkirk and Dunfermline it is a great gesture and stance that D.A.F.C. are showing and taking so Cheers .
I know that some will think "Christ it is only a game" but when I stood at the end of the game on Saturday and looked around the ground I felt a lump in my throat. I pointed out to my son the very seat in the stand he sat in at his first game as a 3 year old (Falkirk V East Fife we won ).
23 years later he is as loyal a supporter of Falkirk as I could ever wish or hoped he could be.

Waddle, God, Bairns will know who this is but for the rest STAINROD, Crunchie, The Craw , Houstie, Roddy Manley, Richard Cadette, Sam McGivern, Tony Parkes, Alec Rae, Yogi and Clarkie The Bruise Brothers :-) and many others have thrilled many tens of thousands of people over the last couple of decades at Brockville and I am pleased to say that I will forever be thankful that I saw them.

No Shankly was wrong when he said "Football is more important than life or death" but other than marriage, birth of our children I can honestly say that watching Falkirk V Kilmarnock in the cup final is on a par with anything I could ever dream of.

Anyway time for a cold Stella and a couple of valium before I bid for the dug-out or some other memorabilia.
JMHO and rantings folks.
Choagy :-)

Over 45 years years ago, my long departed dad took me to see Celtic play Falkirk at Brockville, ( Don`t remember the score Celtic probably won ) and I always recall him telling me that Falkirk had the most passionate and loyal supporters equal even to the old firm`s.

In 1971 I moved to Cumbernauld and living in such close proximity to Falkirk, I have shopped, had evenings out and even built a factory there.

The one thing you will always hear from the locals is the all consuming passion for their football team ( not always reflected in the paying attendance, sadly like many clubs these days, )

Based on Choagy`s passionate and touching tribute, even if it is "The Bairns" misfortune to always be the victim of protectionism, I suspect I know at least one man and his son " who`ll support them ever more "
