Clive,
I am sorry to dissapoint you, but my "NEW" machine arrived back a fortnight ago. Something has been done to it because the pixellation has
improved slightly but it is still dissapointing. By consulting this forum
I would guess that the firmware has been upgraded, but this then
makes the subtitles default to ON !
There are definately NO replacement cards inside, it is still the 4318 and 4955, which i understand was the root cause of the problem.
It is a great pity as otherwise the machine does everything great,
but the priority has got to be picture quality! So i think its refund time for me. Although i havent got a clue what to replace it with because nothing else seems to be so versatile. Let me know what you make of yours.

Jaxon, how are you planning on getting a refund for your Daewoo?

The reason I ask is because I have one of these players that I bought from Argos a few months ago. (I presume you got yours from there as not many places sell them) I have the same pixellation problem as you describe, but I did not really notice it that much until the Argos money back period had expired.

As the machine is not really faulty as such, just a poor chipset, do you think there is any case for a refund? I am not too keen on the hassle of sending the player back to Daewoo if all they are going to do is upgrade the firmware, with little improvement.

Let me know how you get on with returning yours.

Lefty,
I didnt actually get my machine from Argos, but either way, as far as I am
concerned the machine is "faulty" and I wont have any problems with getting a refund. The fault can be demonstrated should the dealer be reluctant. (Not that Argos would be bothered to look.)
I have all the packaging, and I purchased with credit card intentionally, so I have no worries. Anyway, there is so much consumer protection these days it is ridiculous, people return goods for the minimum of
reasons, but "Unfit for the intended purpose" is always popular.
Good luck.

Jaxon

P.S. Thereafter you will be in the same boat as me......
i.e. "Who else makes such a versatile machine?
Because Aiwa, LG, Hitachi, Sony, Panasonic and all other "known"
brands DO NOT offer anywhere near as many facilities.

Cheers for the info Jaxon, I think I will have a go at returning it, as it is still well within the guarantee period. I agree that it is agood player, with lots of great facilities, but as you say, picture quality is more important.

With Argos you have up to 12 months to take it back, i took mine back and told them that the picture was poor and got a full refund. You must have the reciept or they will not refund you. Then it was off to get the Aiwa 370 and what a machine it is... Excellent

Jaxon,
You Were Right,The Replacement Machine Was Rubbish,They Only Upgraded The Firmware And Made It Default To Subtitles, So I Took It Back To Argos For A Complete Refund ,No Problems,Considering I Purchased It Five Months Ago.
I Ended Up Buying A Medion Player From Aldi For 99 Quid, And I Must Say It Is A Most Impressive Machine.

Cheers For Now ,Clive.

Money back after five months, nice one! I thought they would only accept stuff back up to 16 days, or 30 if it`s faulty. If it`s after 30 days I thought they would only replace or repair goods, but from what you say I might have a go at taking my six month old one back, all they can do is say no, and there are a lot of other branches to try if they do!
