How do I remove my car stereo?
I`ve just bought a new car and want to change the stereo unit over but I can`t get the blasted old one out as apparently it needs some kind of special device to remove it.
It`s a pioneer unit so what I`d love to know is how can I get it out of my car?
Leave the car unlocked overnight & walla in the morning it`ll be out. 8)

`special devices` normally equate to specially bent bits of wire or a slip or 2 of stiff plastic, slipped into slots around the housing of the stereo. Your set can just slide out, but it`s held in by catches which need to be held open. Look around the outside of the fascia, particularly on the bottom. When you find the slots, you need to insert something stiff but thin into these slots to release the catches.
Another method is if there are small holes in the front of the radio fascia, it`s normally that you need something like coathanger wire in each of these holes to release the catches.
Incidentally, in case anyone thinks I`;m giving away too many secrets, this information can be gleaned readily from any haynes manual, or from my brother, who`s got a bit of a sheet...
I presume you mean `New` when you say new car. If so the dealer should do this for you or at least tell you how to. If you mean second hand `new` then ask a car audio (maybe the one you got the new system from) how it is done.

park it in liverpool for the night or newcastle and hey presto the stereo will be removed ...along with the car no doubt. ;)

Stanz is right or you can buy a pioneer release keys from Halfords or ask the audio guy nicely and he will tell you what you need, if yo have stark controls you will need an adaptor lead for these to work on a new sterio but not compatable with all sterios higher priced sonys are adaptable.
