Hacks I dont know,

But regarding rating - rest assured you have purchased a good machine...the two LG models I know about have shocked experts and been given 4/5 stars in most magazines I have read. one negative aspect I picked up on is the stereo sound is not as strong coming through the scart connection to the TV (For the lower model).

Purchase a couple of DVD magazines, that will satisfy your curiosity!!
