Firstly forgive me i`m new to all this. I have just bought a DD/DTS surround system. After setting up I tested it using U571 R1and I noticed that the amp was in DD5.1 mode even though the disc is encoded with DD & DTS. When I watched Gladiator R1 the option to play the DTS soundtrack is in the disc`s menu. The point is there is no DTS button on the amp to switch it to DTS mode so unless the option is there like on Gladiator the amp will default to DD5.1. Am I missing something here?
PS. DTS output IS enabled on my DVD player and the amp is a Sony STR-DE445
Cheers in advance.
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
I don`t think it`s a DTS amp. I have checked various on-line shops and even the Sony website. Nowhere does it state that it is a DTS amp, only Dolby Digital and pro-logic. To be honest, if it was DTS capable, i imagine if the signal was sent from your DVD then the Amp would pick up on the signal and switch automatically. The only other problem maybe your DVD player.
This always confuses me and i always get this wrong. So wait for more info, BUT, i believe your DVD must have a DTS logo on it to pass on the DTS signal (is this right people??).
Another thing ...do u here anything from your speakers when you play the DTS soundtrack? Do you see the DTS logo?, you should see piano strings before start of movie
anyway good luck

RE: Possibly a stupid question!
Hello me again.....sorry mate, you do not have a DTS capable amp. I you could have saved a bit more cash and went for the STR-DE545 then you would have DTS.
take it back and get money back
cheers BA
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
The STR-DE445 has dts according to every retailer that sells it.See my answer on the other forum if you still need the info.
BALL_ACHE are you just being mischievious?
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
Don`t know about your amp but you don`t need to switch the amp. It will switch itself once it sees a DTS signal. I have U571 R1 also. You need to goto the audio setup and select DTS. Once this is done, you will see some piano strings being played and the movie will start. My amp(Sony 730) then switches to DTS. Hope this solves your problem.
The Sony STR-DE 445 does support DTS!

By the way what do you think of the 445?
Have u compared it to any other receivers?

Have you enabled DTS out on the Player ?
Does the Player support DTS ?
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
Thanks guys for your advice. To confirm the amp is DTS and the DVD player is enabled for DTS. It seems on U571 I just wasn`t looking at the menus, I just put in the disc and played it! . This is my first DD/DTS receiver it came as part of the HTK-315 kit and as a budget option it`s fantastic, I would like to say better than the DigiTheatre DTS but I haven`t heard one yet.
Cheers once again
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
Thanks Dieselman, I`ve found the DTS soundtrack on U571. Why do they hide it away? Would it not be easier if the DD/DTS option screen was shown when you chose to play the movie instead of always defaulting to DD.... Just a thought!
RE: Possibly a stupid question!
I was not been mischievious......sorry if it seemed that way. Only i looked at the sony website and it did not state that it was DTS...only the next model up the scale was.
sorry man
