Advice on stripping...

...wallpaper, that is. Got your attention tho :)

Finally took the big step and bought myself a flat, in the process of moving my stuff into it now and thought it best to decorate before everything`s unpacked (duh!). Was going to repaper the living room but its that damned woodchip stuff that`s hellish to remove.

Anyone have any tips or tricks for getting it off any easier? An electric steamer was suggested.

Bloody woodchip! Wear gloves so you don`t skin your knuckles when you attack it with the remover tool thingy. Hire a good steamer from a wallpaper/paint shop.

I`ve just done the hall - B&Q do some excellent wall paper remover - its bright orange and sprays on. Leave it for a couple of minutes and the paper comes away easily. Took me next to no time to do a long hallway using it.

Steamers (and elbow grease) always did the trick in this household. Disadvantages are that the wallpaper left on the floor is very soggy and therefore messy to dispose of. Also be careful not to scald yourself, steam is superhot.

But if you put a sheet down to cover the floor, disposing of it is simple 8)

I spent 1 week getting rid of woodchip wallpaper in my house, working 14 hours a day on the bastard stuff (the whole house was full of it). Steam doesn`t work very well (although it does make it slightly easier, emphasis on "slightly").

Be careful if you use a steamer on some types of wall, overwise it can straight through!!!!!!!!!

Be careful using a steamer on ALL types of wall as even on solid walls if you leave it on too long you will steam the plaster off the brick leaving you with loads of work to do before you get round to painting or papering.
