Are there any pubs in Florida?

Dance Like A Monkey (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 6th January 2004, 19:36

Or bars as I believe they call them. :D

I am going there to celebrate/commiserate my 30th in May. It has all been booked up and paid for, but I have just been told today by a mate that there is hardly anywhere to drink there, except for restaurants i.e. no pubs!

Please tell me it isn`t so! I can` t be sober on my birthday.

ps My hotel is on International Drive Orlando so it would have to be near there (it doesn`t have it`s own bar!)

Yes there are bars etc although most drinking etc. is done in restaurants and the like.

MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER TO TAKE PASSPORT/ID WITH YOU...
Even though you`re 30 you`ll still be asked for ID. Most places I went to had a guide of `If you look under 40 we ask`.

They won`t accept drivers licence - not sure about new picture one but imagine they may.

i remember seeing quite a few pubs/bars when i was there. Most of them tended to be sports bars absolutely filled with t.v.`s everywhere you looked.

There are plenty of bars and pubs but dont expect the sort of pub crawls you get in the uk. Downtown disney at night is good, they have an over 21`s club etc. The old town in Kissimmee (just ask for the giant air swing) has some great bars including an old type western bar and a karaoke bar. Its more relaxed and when I went in the Summer there were a good mixture of Americans and British as well as some stunning women (the wife dosnt mind me looking) - by 10.30 I was plastered but what ever you do DONT go on the giant air swing - even if sober.

Church Street station was excellent about 5 years ago but Ive heard alot of its been sold off and is no where near as good.

Excellent, thanks very much people you have made my evening. Two things especially

Even though you`re 30 you`ll still be asked for ID

That`s exactly what I want to hear when I turn 30. People not believing I look over 21 :D

and

an old type western bar

Fantastic!!!!!!

ps What`s the giant air swing. I have to go on it now. Sober and drunk!

Basically its a 60 ft swing that you drop from then swing out and back again. I like thrill rides and ok with heights but this is the worst thing Ive ever done. The climb is scary and the drop - well I dont like to talk about it. Was exhilerating though. Check out the website at www.old-town.com . Get a taxi and check it out, have a drink for me while your there !

There`s a place in the mercado village on i - drive called the cricketers arms . It`s just like an english pub and you can watch all the sky footy in there . Also at the mercado village there is free nightly outdoor entertainment live singers and such were adults and kids gather at night sit outdoors and drink jugs of bud all night from the beer stalls .There are plenty of shops around for the other half and don`t forget to try out the titanic exhibition . 8)
