Customs charges on $120 shipment

Wedge G (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 13th January 2004, 17:36

I`m very tempted to pick up the Buffy season 1-4 dvd giftset from Amazon.com, but Amazon say that they clearly mark the box with the value of the contents. Does anyone know how much I would be likely to incur in the way of customs charges if I went ahead with this order?

I reckon you would be lookin` at an all in charge (ie. VAT and Post Office Charges) of about £25...thats only a rough arsed estimate. Someone else will probably be a bit more scientific. :/

About £17, I think. VAT and the Post Ofiice charge of about £5. Last year I had to pay £12 on a $80 item.

Thanks for all of the advice guys.

I`ll have to give this some serious thought (region 2 sets are dropping in price at the mo so may give it another month or so before ordering)

Wedgie, don`t forget that the pound is a very good deal over the dollar at the mo`, there is no way you would pay £17 vat on $120, as it would only amount to about £70 odd, or so. However customs MAY charge you about 3-4%, and occasionally (rarely) a British carrier (Parcel Force!?) will add their pound of flesh. I`ve been importing a lot of guitar parts from the US lately, and although there are good buys out there you have to do your sums right! Roger.

Futureent have good Region 1 prices for all the Buffy seasons to 5 for 34.99 each Season 6 is due on July 6 for same. Season 1 is 21.99 This company is in UK so no import duty and therefore peace of mind.
I`m sure I saw a thread somewhere that Reg 2 was to be repackaged and issued for half the original price but I can`t seem to find it. Tesco??
