Page 1 of Decoding a car radio
General Forum
Hi,
Can anyone help me? I was fiddling about with my Ford Fiesta today and when I came to drive it again I found the car radio had reset itself (as I had disconnected it at one point). Unfortunately, this car is at least third hand, so I don`t know the code. I`ve had a look on the net but can only find decoding services, where if you email them the serial number of the radio they email u back the code - for a charge. To be honest, I`d rather buy a newer, better radio than pay someone for an email. It`s a Ford Sound 2000 and I can assure you this is a genuine request (you only have to look up how old this radio is to see it`s not worth nicking.)
Cheers
No real idea, but my brother (who always seemed to know a lot about car radios) used to always say the code function could be disabled if you stuck the radio in the freezer overnight. Of course, being much older and wiser now, I can probably safely advise against this course of action

I was going to say the same about a freezer, but thought I`d get laughed at...lol :)
I`ve heard it a lot over the years but never tried it, as only had one car with a keycode radio (this one), but always changed them for something else.
Why not just get a new, more modern one? In-car CD players are quite cheap now (£70 or less). I got a beauty from Maplins before Xmas with a flip down front, that plays mp3s on CD too. I`ve got 15 albums on one CD....who needs an auto changer....lol :)

Cheers,
What model did u get from Maplins and how much was it?

A friend bought a car few years back which after 6 months needed the code putting in which he didn`t have, while trying to get the dealer to contact the previous owner for the code he`d heard about the freezer trick but throught it was a miff, but had nothing to lose trying it - he put it over night and tried it the next day and it worked, his dealer came through with the code.
It was ivor luck or something else
It`s a Shark mp3 /CD /radio...very nice. You can browse folders on the Cd too, so can put the mp3s into folders as if they were albums, and play from each folder.
It was £150 about November, then dropped to £100 just before Xmas on a promtion. When I went to buy it, it had dropped again to £75, and I had a £5 voucher I get in their emails so got it for £70 delivered (could have got it in store too).
After Xmas I noticed it went back up to £150, but now it`s showing at £100 again. Details here:

Have a look on kazza for the decoding software, made by Aflux if I remember!

On a slightly different subject, I wanted to buy a car radio/cd/mp3 player but one which I could change between my car and my camper van as I cannot drive both at the same time. Any ideas how best to achieve this? Can I buy the mounting `box` for a particular radio seperately or are they standard fixings? Obviously it would be easier to have a removable radio although I know more companies are using the removable front for security.
Any ideas appreciated.

I`m too old for this sh*t!
You can pick up a Ford 2006 radio on ebay for about £24 if you want to replace the current one for pennies BTW. They`re actually nice radios if you don`t care about CD`s (or don`t want your car breaking into for the stereo ;) ).
