RE: AIWA XD-DV370 MACROVISION?
Jim,
I am currently using a Dazzle DVC_USB. It will encode any input to mpeg-1 with audio as it records to hard drive.. I then can burn VCDs that I can play in my DV370. Certainly doesn`t rival the DVD with 5.1 sound but if company comes, I have something to watch. But my primary use for this was to get my old VHS home movies onto VCD before they fall apart..

Ah, Macrovision fools the VCR into thinking the signal is fluctuating, therefore the VCR adjusts to correct the picture, resulting in the flashing etc.
Your PC unit probably doesn`t recognise the macro signal, therefore you don`t get it from your VCD`s.
However, try recording a DVD direct to your VCR, you may find it flashes, but I would be very very interested if you manage to get it recording OK.
Lemme know :o)
AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!
RE: AIWA XD-DV370 MACROVISION?
I tryed the regiocode hack, and it worked fine (got it from a German site).
I saw the number and recognised Pi (3,14159) So I tried an other "well known" number E (the natural log) 271828 in the same procedure and gess what, code L was displayed.
I dont know if, and in what you can change it, but maybe it is to disable macrovision.
If you trust yourself to try it, I`m would like to hear (read) the results.
RE: AIWA XD-DV370 MACROVISION?
I just read a post tonight in another group...
Someone there that has a Dazzle DVC-USB said that if he plays a DVD with macrovision directly into it`s input, and plugs the output of the Dazzle into his vcr, it records perfectly....I guess (have not tested) the Dazzle device is handling the problem...Will have to test recording direct to vcr and then through dazzle.. Please tell me a dvd title you know for sure has macrovision encoding...

It was about two months ago that someone started publishing these codes saying they did strange stuff. As far as I can remember the e number just resets the machien to its factory defaults, i.e. undoes the region hack. I don`t think that anyone tried any other, or rather no one else was brave enough to try.
I think that Jimbo or Trolls site have some documentation of these codes. There is also no known hack for Macrovision.
I use a 1978 Panasonic VHS key type video ,the macrovision has no effect upon it, try to do same on modern VHS and you get more flashes then you get on clapham common on a summers evening!
Trouble is the Panasonic weighs about the same as a mini car,but it copied Gladiator, and Toy Story 2 last weekend with no problems.
Read on web that there are some modern VHS videos that will record with no problem , but there not brand names so I assume there cheapo chinese/korean makes with odd names.
Also heard that if you chip your player it can effect picture quality, anyone know?
