Safe disposal of Calor gas bottles - Advice needed please
Need to safely dispose of a 20kg (I think) Calor gas bottle. My local civic amenities site quite rightly refuse to take them. Any ideas anyone ?

It should be returnable - take it to your local calor gas seller, which may well be a petrol station, or otherwise look in the phonebook. They should accept it.

Surly you can not be serious?
Try dumping it in a field like pikeys do. The the council will pick it up and despose of it for you ;)

We used to get our gas bottles delivered by a man in a van. When we moved out to a house with gas (wow!) we phoned up the guy and he just came and took away the bottle. We were going to keep it but pickfords wouldnt take it in the removal van.
Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.

You could contact the fire brigade (not 999) ask for the Fire Prevention Officer, he should be able to keep you right. 8)

Chuck it in the canal :D
seriously though...dont they have some kind of deposit on em? If I recall when my dad used to have the big bottles at the garage, he said when you got the gas you bought the gas inside the bottle but the bottle itself was still the property of the place you got the gas from. I think some places charge a deposit that you can claim when you take back an empty

Ah yes, think you might be right. Looks like I`ll have to get onto Calor as it`s definitely got their brand name on the bottle.

Yeah, find your local bottled gas dealer. When we got our caravan we had to buy a bottle as it didn`t come with one. The first bottle was more expensive as it included a deposit, subsequent refills were cheaper as you had an empty bottle to put in, in exchange.
If you take it in, you might actually get some money back off it. :)
