Anybody had a Link machine steal their money??

retrogeezer (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 12th September 2004, 11:03

I tried to withdraw £80 from the Link machine in my local Co-op store on friday night, it made the usual whirring noises then gave my card back and the on screen message said it was unable to complete the transaction.

I`ve just checked my bank account on-line and it shows the £80 as withdrawn!! I didn`t get the money - what do I do?

Help!! I can`t afford to lose £80, it`s nearly half a weeks wages.

why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

Tell your bank and cross your fingers.

I shouldn`t worry...you can always ask the co-op for their security CCTV if the bank get shirty. But ATMs keep a log of all screen messages, so the bank will know you didn`t get your dosh.

2 friends had their cash eaten by (co-incidentally?) a Co-op cash machine. Report it to your bank immediately. 1 friend had no hassles as the machine showed over in cash, but the other friend had a bit of a fight as they said the machine was correct.

If there is a phone number on the cash machine phone it too.

happened to me once or twice but here`s the full story:

went to withdraw some money, said it would be charged at something like £2. so i cancelled. checked my account - said `withdrawn` and the money plus the £2. but then next day also had `refunded` or `paid in` money for the same amount.

hopefully you`ll get your money back :)

Yea, happened to me a year or so ago. I was using the Link outside my local Woolwich branch (whom I bank with)
Next working day I went in there to tell em and she looked at me and said "thats unlikely" or words to that effect.
Anyway, I fanally got it into her thick head that I was`nt making it up and she gave me the forms to fill out (yup, get ready for paperwork)

I was ushered in to this little space with tables and chairs and guess what, 2 others filling in the same form that had lost their money as well.

What a bitch! she must have known!

Takes about a week or so to get it back.

I had the same thing done to me...just the other way around...lol

the machine (yup a co-op one) whirred and clanked for ages then spat out the money, but then a message came on screen to say `sorry cannot complete transaction, re insert card` but I had got my card back and my money so I just left. I checked my ballance online when I got home later that night and it had taken the money out even though the machine said it hadnt....shame cos I was hoping I was gonna get £30 for free LOL
