Worst musical score or in film music

royd (Competent) posted this on Friday, 13th April 2001, 22:16

Hi
Having just watched The Last Line of Defense and being still tormented by the crappy monotonous music,I was thinking what anyone else considers to be the worst music to accompany a film.

I think McG using his `seventies record collection to score "Charlie`s Angels" was a bad move. The picture rocks, but if it had been given a proper score - David Arnold perhaps - it would have been the icing on the cake.

Referring back to my nostalgia files, I`d say any picture in which Tommy Steele or Anthony Newley sings is a low point.

Eric Serra can never be forgiven for his Goldeneye score.

Can`t say I had a problem with Goldeneye, quite a bold step I thought (each to his own). I couldn`t stand James Horner`s Perfect Storm music though, sickeningly cheesy and over-done throughout. If the scene`s moving, I`ll be moved, don`t force me at gunpoint to feel emotion. I could barely hear speech above all that brass & strings (sometimes, less is more). Eric Serra would know what I mean!.

Titanic - can`t get Enya to do your score, just rip her off then. Frankenstein, the Branagh version - mediocre score not helped by being too loud in the mix. What`s that you say Baron? Can`t hear you because you appear to be standing next to a 75 piece orchestra. MI-2 - my head hurts.

Gladiator,

Saw at the cinema, walked out half way through because of the woman wailing all the way through it. Couldn`t hear the dialogue because of this high pitched cat strangler squeeling at the top of her voice.

Never watched it since.

All the best

Gerald.
