Disabled parking.

The original 42pcenter MD (Elite) posted this on Friday, 29th October 2004, 17:50

I know I am going to get slated for this but hear I go.

I have no problem with disabled parking spaces being closer to the shops. What I do have a problem with is that they are free. Carte blache. If you can afford a Merc you can afford to pay for your parking. I can`t afford a Merc or a Fiesta for that matter but I still have to pay.
I am intiteld to a badge and could use the system to my advantage. But I genuenly feel I can do with out and I would be taking a space of someone who needs it.

But the difference is that (in the eyes of the system) the people who aren`t entitled to free parking *could* use other means of transport.

But I do think that if you can afford to run a car, you can afford to park it.

I don`t have a badge as we don`t have a car, but I`m entitled to one too - and if my mum did have a car what`s to stop her just displaying my badge and getting free parking even if I`m not there?

Disabled parking = Good (as long as it is a genuine disability that prevents them from parking further away)

Parent and child parking = Bad (why should someone get to park nearer the shops just because they take their kid in with them?)

Don`t think of yourself as an ugly person. Think of yourself as a beautiful monkey!

we get asked who our badge belongs to all the time by traffic wardens/parking attendants, and i`m told if you do misuse the badge there is a very strong possability that you will lose it (the badge that is) and to be honest i`m very glad i don`t have to pay for parking, especialy when uor local hospital put the parking rate up from 50p to £2 >:(

I feel the same way , especially when I cross the Severn bridge and have to pay the toll but badge holders go free , why, they still cause the same amount of wear and tear on the bridge as I do so should pay towards it`s maintenance .
Also I know many are disabled and need the badge but I know of many more that simply use it a way of getting free road tax , park anywhere , etc etc benefits as there is **** all wrong with them , know one bloke who has a disabled badge for asthma but does not drive as he spends all day p***ing his disability allowance up the wall and his wife uses the badge to do her shopping and park outside the shops on the yellow lines .. Oh FFS I`m getting all stressed out now , better go to the chill thread and calm down :)

Sorry to get peeps stressed.

Xfilesgurly, I could have a badge. but I am more than capable of getting a bus, and giving up my seat. I try not to get the bus when I can because it smells and I am a bit of a snob at heart.

Good point.
What next don`t charge them for their petrol ?.(I fully support the parking spaces though)

I am a snob on busses too - the wheelchair bit is right at the front and chavs seem to crowd the doors even when the bus is near-empty (meaning people have to battle through them to sit down - though I get to run their toes over as we go to get off :p) so I get chavs leaning on the handlebars of the wheelchair and standing *too close* to the shopping! Ugh.

`I am going to live forever, or die trying`...

I take my mum out and use her badge(yes she needs it), but we have to pay for a ticket, and where i live no spaces are any nearer the shops!! what does annoy me is there are only ever a couple of spaces and loads of parent and child ones!!
