Easyjet `Liverpool Bashing`

Corrach (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 11th November 2004, 21:37

Being from the Liverpool area, I was rather dismayed at the papers quoting an easyjet captains joke, saying something like `We are now flying over Liverpool at 10,000 ft, watch your wallets`

This is Liverpool bashing again, yet another typecasting gag :(

I thought all this typecasting stuff was finished with in this modern `politicaly correct` age, but it seems not.

Dont think I will be flying Easyjet in the future.

LOL ;)

Sorry Corrach but it is kind of funny (and it was only a joke) and if they weren`t knocking liverpool they would be taking the p*** out of somebody else.
I`ve been to liverpool quite a few times and i love place and the people.
So don`t take it to heart.

Its OK, I think he got a repremand and was told to visit the area and apologise to each person in turn, I think they call it `do a Boris Johnson` :D

Corrach, I agree that the `joke` wasn`t funny. But equally, inhabitants of a lot of other cities get insulted without thinking it`s a vendetta against them.

It has to be said that every time Liverpool gets insulted, Liverpudlians do seem to rise to the bait. If you don`t want to continue having the label of `capital of self-pity` around your necks, perhaps take the occasional blow on the chin?

You don`t see Brummies making a Spectator-like fuss every time someone calls them thick, do you? Or Glaswegians when someone says that they`re all bellicose drunks?

They`re all stereotypes and inaccurate and offensive ones at that. But making a fuss about every such incident has a habit of backfiring.

As I have said befor, for a city who`s people claim to have the best scence of humor in the world, you can`t half not take a joke.

All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

Most of us Liverpudlians do have a sense of humour and I sometimes use the scouse stereotype gag myself. Some people just feel strongly about it and there`s nothing wrong with that. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about somebody complaining about London bashing. I can`t wait for the bishop bashing thread.
