I guess the dvd-recorder has won... just need to sort out which format, my suggestion is everybody to buy the one i dont, as in a former life i was `Beta-max Man`! :D

RE: Dixons group to stop selling VCR
The bizarre thing is that they`re supposedly stopping selling it because DVD players have overtaken vcr`s. But surely and unless i`ve gone very very umb overnight, you can`t record on dvd players (as opposed to dvd recorders).
Strikes me as an unsubtle attempt to force people to spend over inflated prices on dvd recorders to be able to tape coronation street. (and yes i do have a dvd recorder myself - i just think for the average joe public dvd recorders for under the telly are out of reach price-wise)
Or will this just turn into the gamecube debarcle where demand will soar because they say they won`t stock them anymore.
RE: Dixons group to stop selling VCR
vhs is crude we know but there is still the market for it which why manufacturers are now producing dvdrecoders/vhs recorders combis its old hat stuff you think they would just move on from vhs :o
RE: Dixons group to stop selling VCR
I heard dvd players are outselling videos 40 to 1.
RE: Dixons group to stop selling VCR
To be fair I have not had a VCR on the shop floor for about 4Years. If you want one though I can still get um.

I dont know about you but i cant remember the last time i used my video. now everything is repeated ad infinitum Its a fairly safe bet that if you miss corrie or something you will be able to catch it again. Same with sky. If i miss a show on sky one i watch it later in the week on mix. rather than watch a crappy recording.
The only person who uses our video is the mrs to watch her edits back from work.
I Dont know Karate...but I know Ker-azy!
What im listening to (if youre interested)
Did you see the mention of the price VCRs were when they first came out in 1978 ? Apparently they were priced at £798, equivalent to £3000 in todays money. There again, that was Dixon`s price. ;) Can`t remember when I first bought one, but do remember asking advice from a rental shop which format to go for, the bloke admitted that Betamax was technically the better format, but suggested that VHS was going to be king in the market place. I also remember that there were a few (very few) Betamax rental tapes.
