Info on dvd players, portable and standalone

dodgy_damo (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 9th May 2001, 06:29

I`m keen on buying a dvd player. I`m off to Hong Kong soon and have a few questions for those in the know!
Obviously I want a player that is multi region, but are portable players multi region? Can they be used on regular telly`s? And I plan to use whichever player i invest in as my full time dvd player, so would it be advisable to use a portable player, in the same manner as a standalone model (ie. constantly linked to a telly)?
Some prices I`ve seen are very tempting, such as the Panasonic portable dvd LV75 for £399 (USD$570) as compared to prices of £800 upwards!
oh, and advice on pirated dvds and adult dvds... will they work, and the legality`s (ie will they simply be confiscated or will you face higher penalties?)

Just a word of advice, if your looking to get a portable DVD player, why not go the whole hog for a small amount more and get a Laptop with a DVD drive.
I have a Laptop and have had no region problems and ive taken it all over the palce.
