This is a bit of a wierd discussion but dont you think that if a plane travels in the opposite direction in which the world is turning it is impossible for it to take more than 12 hours im just confused anyone who wants to explain or just share my theory reply.

You would have to leave the earths atmosphere for that to work. Civillain aircraft do not do this, you would also have to have both Austrailia and The UK on the equator.
Is that the time? Give me a minute and I will be there when I finish on the comp!

I think wind would have a deciding factor, but to answer your question....START DIGGIN`

sans, everything is relative thats what u have to understand - meaning that even if you are stationary, u are actually moving at the speed the earth beneath u is rotating thro space. Doesnt matter if u are moving with or against the earth`s spin. Of course, speed at the equator is greater than speed at poles but don`t think this has any influence on the matter.

Approximately:
The earth rotates at 900 miles per hour
The earth orbits the sun at 19 miles per second
The earth moves through the galaxy at 6 million miles per day*
The speed of travel to Australia is therefore a wild guess at best!

You got that from the galaxy song in Monty pythons the meaning of life didn`t you
And you could get to Oz in 2 hours if you had a mach 10 X-43 scramjet ( Supersonic Combustion Ramjet)

The Galaxy Song has been analysed by an astronomer and the annotated lyrics can be found here.

"Can we have your kidneys then?"
"Well if you put it like that"
Proberbly quoted wrong, but it still makes me laugh.
