Page 1 of 4:3 on Widescreen TV
General Forum
How does 4:3 come out on widescreen? Does it fill the whole screen or do you get black bars down the side? Can anybody help with this?
Black bars down the side.
Its like watchin a widescreen tv signal on a 4:3 tipped on its side
but most widescreen tv`s have zoom features so all is not lost....baz
It`s not quite the same as having a normal T.V on it`s side (understood your point though). Certain makes & models will have bars that bend outwards rather than being perfectly straight. The higher you have the contrast, the worse the bending (or bowing as techies call it) gets. I returned a couple of sets until I found one that had perfectly parralel lines. Also, the zoom modes that scale the edges more to attain a supposedly agreeable screen-fill are all rubbish. They degrade the widescreen T.V to P/Scan level by displaying cropped images (however convincingly done). This goes against every reason for buying a widescreen set in the first place. If people are happy with the results then that`s fair enough, but it`s better to buy a bigger screen so that you can happily watch everything in it`s proper ratio.
Thanks to everybody for the above. I was debating getting Farscape which seems to be only available in 4:3 so I don`t think I`ll bother now.
