How do you remove a car sticker from the bodywork?

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 15th June 2005, 21:54

Just bought a 3 year old car with a `Radio channel advertising` sticker on the colour coded plastic back bumper (200mm x 50mm), its been there since new, I was told. It seems to be laquered over, so wont peel off easily.

I am now struggling how to remove it.

Not willing to use any chemicals as it might melt the painted plastic, Scraping off may damage the paintwork as well, any ideas ?

Once its off, do I smooth with teecut?

hmmm, if it appears to be lacquered over, it may be that the bumper has been damaged on the other side, they have painted the repair with colour, blended the colour in and then lacquered the rest of the bumper and straight over the sticker.

If this is the case, no chance of getting it off without it being very obvious.

If not, boil a kettle of water, pour boiling water over the sticker (and be very careful not to pour it on yourself - I`m not responsible if you burn yourself!) This will soften the glue and the sticker should then peel off.
You can also get warm it up with a hair dryer if you have a long extension lead!

Petrol will get any sticky residue off.

why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

Be careful that the sticker hasn`t been there for so long that the paint underneath would be a different colour to the rest due to the sun.........
