should do cause I live in Northern Ireland and my sister has an O2 phone which switches over to 02 IE when in the south (02 bought over eircom (the souths leading mobile network) a few years back)

Should be no problem but watch for the fact that its counted as abroad it think, so watch the call charges. If you are staying in the north of Eire and get the signal from a NI transmitter you should still be counted as in the UK.

Just make sure you get to the right place - Mayo is in the west of Ireland. I`m O2 here in Dublin and can make calls okay when in England.
"What are you doing here? Five words or less."
"Out. For. A. Walk."
