Can You Get Out Of A 12 Month Mobile Contract?

denperry (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 13th August 2005, 07:10

Hello all. I thought I heard that you could get out of a contact now by giving 28 days notice, or am I talking Rubbish? Would be good to know before I start making a pratt of myself on the phone to orange.

Thanks in advance.

you can but you have to pay a premium for all the months left. i had maybe four months left and they told me i needed to pay £40odd to cancel the remaining time.

hope this helps.

Forgive me for hi-jacking the thread, but after a 12 month contract is up can i turn the phone to a pay as you go type?
Do i need to change sim card?

Yes and Yes but call your service provider and they will transfer you and send a new sim for free

For the original post - as said already you have to `buy` yourself out of the contract, and the amount you have used the phone will set the amount you will have to pay - at worst it will be the remaining line rental up to 12 months plus a fee for potential lostr call charges. At best (as happened to a friend on orange after 8 months of a contract) it will be free - if you are on say a £25/month tarriff but have regular bills of 70 or 80 quid, you are in with a chance of getting off free.

Sorry to continue the hijacked thread. It was a couple of years ago but T-Mobile once swapped me to Pay as you go with the same number & sim card that I had on the contract.
