DVD Problem

MoiraB (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 25th August 2005, 14:57

:( My son in law set up our Technik DVD player whilst here on holiday but I can`t find the handbook. When we went to play a DVD in only appears in black and white. Can anyone tell me how to make it play in colour please?

If you`re playing an NTSC encoded disc (ie american) and the cable you are using to connect to the television is a RGB cable (3 seperate cables - red white and yellow) then the only way around is to get a scart cable and connect with that instead, assuming you have the correct sockets.

No it`s not an American disk and I`m pretty sure the DVD player is connected to a scart socket via an adaptor that takes several appliances.

go into the setup menu, select the video option & change it to "PAL" that should cure the problem :)

ps, is it an "original" disc or a copy ? (bear with me, it could be relevent)

Red, white and yellow cables are not RGB cables. They are a composite video cable and a pair of sound cables. RGB would be through a scart lead. Have you tried all the SCART inputs available on the TV? Tried pressing the button on the remote to cycle through them?

The setup menu didn`t have a Video option but I did find a "Default" option which seems to have solved the problem. I don`t have any copy disks only originals.

Thanks for your help.
