Page 1 of panasonic dmr E55 dvd recorder play back problem with new dvds

after buying a copy of the the truman show on dvd at £4.99 i notice that the player gave a message of unsupported format when trying to play this disc.
after resetting the player with no joy..i decide to copy the disc which would removing encryption that had been installed
to my amazement the disc played on the panasonic player
to this i have conclude that the panasonic E55 cant handle the new sony encryption they are now using.
a part from copying the disc is there any firmware upgrades out there for the player???
has anyone else had this problem???
