Page 1 of Brazil only ones better than England????

What an absolute joke! Mr Owen is smoking something me thinks! Last month they couldn`t beat Northern ireland and that was with the "talismanic" striker Wayne Rooney!!! Now all of a sudden because they scraped a boring win over the world giants that are Austria and Holland beat the Czech republic they are the second best team in the world!!!

In terms of a first team of players, we practically are. Under the current manager, we really aren`t.

Completely agree - we have the individuals, though no team ethic. To be honest we`re not that far from the days of Keegan picking the best XI players and fitting them into a team - with square pegs in round holes (ie Lampard and Gerrard playing centre-mid, still no left side midfielder, and now struggling for a decent backup for Ashley Cole at LB)...

The World Cup is a few months away - and there are no signs of improvement, if anything it`s getting worse...

It is beyond belief that the FA, are paying Sven £4million + a year. Earlier in the year the Guradian published figures for the Top 10 FIFA ranked countries` managers. You could add 6 of those managers` wages together and it still not eclipse Sven`s wages.

Meanwhile the state of the game at grassroots level continues to worsen, clubs are fearful of spending too much money in the wake of likely tv income reductions, and the FA are spending £750million on a National stadium...

For all the nay sayers name me 3 teams that are better than England. And, for this little excercise, I would like to point out that England have got a better qualifying record than Argentina and Brazil, have lost 3 and 2 times respectively (granted they played 17 games, but still....), France have drawn 5 times as have spain, Italy top their group with a worse record than us.........

Anyone writing off England at this stage is, quite frankly, an idiot who knows nothing about football.

The only teams with records worth fearing in qualifying are Holland and Portugal and neither of them turn it on particularly for big tournaments.

Its going to be one of the most open championships ever and there are about 6 or 7 teams who could quite easily go all the way. There will be one asian team who do well as they will still be reasonably fresh from not playing so much, germany will do well as they havent had to play all the qualifying games, and one team from England, Brazil, Holland and Portugal.

Not knowing much about football i just looked up the FIFA world rankings and it appears there are 10 teams better than England
Brazil
Netherlands
Argentina
Czech Republic
Mexico
France
USA (shurely shome mishtake)
Spain
Portugal
and Sweden

As Owen pointed out, on their day England can (and have) beat anyone on that list except for Brazil. Thus proving what a gay argument this is.

All the other countries on that list could probably say something similar.

The thing is, England will have to have thier day many times over a few weeks to win the world cup. No good just having one good day.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

That, my friend, is exactly my point. At international level, there are about 15 teams that on their day can beat any other. With the exception of Brazil, who tend to be most countries `bogey team`, ergo, owen is correct.

I happen to believe that we are one of the better, most consistant sides in this bracket of teams and, as such have got a decent shot at it this time.

Additionally, dont place too much stock in the FIFA world rankings. Iran are placed higher than Greece, the european champions, who would, 9/10 hand iran their arses.

The only team with a rightful place there is scotland at 74. One place above Qatar, but below the footballing giants of Jordan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
