Help Does anyone Know why this macine will not play copied video cdi it has no problem if you copy the movi onto cd-rw (both audio and pc versions ) this is doing my nut in as it does not make any sence to me atall ,This machine is not supposed to play pc copies of anything
Darthmall!!!
Er yes i think. I am not technical, so I`m sure people will correct
me, but someone once told me........
Sony DVD players only have a single laser, and Copied VCD, are on the wrong colour CD, (green underlayer rather than Silver), which require a dual laser. Therefore the ONLY way to play copied VCDs is to add a new laser to your DVD player (about £120 at the time).
In short tis a hardware rather than software issue.
Not good news, but I hope it helps you.
RE: Sony 535 video CDs
Bryan A is right.
You might try rewritable CDs (CDRW) as they are quite close to the reflectivity of pressed DVDs/CDs.
According to http://redrobe.com/dvd/vcd.php
Princo are the only brand that`ll work. (CDR or CDRW???)
Other 535`s might chip in with some tried-and-tested brands.
BTW I am not a Sony owner.

I looked into this as I burn my own VCDs/CDs and have a Sony DVD player. Sony player don`t need a new laser, just CD-R that it can read. Princo CD-Rs is the only brand that I know it works with consistently. Although it works with almost every brand of CD-RWs. I got some Princo CD-Rs from Maplin Electronic (74min/650Mb £13 for pack of 50) a few weeks ago. They work fine with no problem. I think the new generation of Sony DVD player will work with CD-R now.
