Ariston DVD 2000 Problems.

I seem to be having sound problems when playing Region 1 DVD`s on my Ariston.

I have entered the Engineer menu and set the region code to either 1 or 13, then tried playing the following region 1 DVD`s.

Stigmata - The sound breaks up all through out the film.
The Sixth Sense - The deleted scenes and trailers, the sound stutters.

These DVD`s work on other DVD players fine.
I am taking the Ariston back to Richer Sounds where I am going to try swapping the unit for another Ariston.

Also in the engineers menu, I seem to have messed up the Parental CC code. It started with an 8. Can anyone tell me this code .

Thanks

Lee

Not sure if this site is any help, but it has lots of details on the Ariston:

Hi Lee,

I had what could be the same problem with 13th Warrior (R2), an effect rather like when a comedian pretends his microphone is faulty.

I put it down to a faulty disk and got a refund, but then I spotted a posting on an Internet newsgroup from someone who had found the same problem with 13th Warrior and a few other films including A Bugs Life. Like you, he had tried the disks on another breed of machine and they played fine. He got a replacement machine from Richer Sounds and it had the same problem as the original! I have since tried A Bugs Life on my own Ariston fully expecting trouble, only to have it play perfectly!!

So the big question is, is it solely the player at fault or is ther some problem with certain disks that some machines are better at coping with than others?

Aside from 13th Warrior and a couple of scenes in Dragonheart, I haven`t come across the problem with any other disk & that includes a few R1 titles.

I have discovered that the problem is not as bad when you listen through the headphones. So I`m using the headphone socket as the main audio output for the time being until a better solution can hopefully be found.

Anyway, I`ll be very interested to hear how you get on.

Regards,

Steve.
