Birthday Bash In London. Any Ideas?????
Hi,
My mate turns 40 next month and we were looking to go to London overnight.
We would be looking for a meal then onto a bar/club and back to a cheapish hotel.
There will be about 6-8 blokes.
Travelodge at Covent Garden seems a good place to crash out.
Any ideas/experiences you can share with me?
Thanks.
Steve.

This is an idea. All credit to this goes to Big Al Blade over at MCNNinjas Forum.
Monopoly Pub Crawl
Do not panic not all the streets represented on the Monopoly board have a drinking point, however the majority do!
You need to allow most of the day if you want to do the entire route, however the London Underground is often included so that you can pick up at different points during the journey.
Two stops are included as optional as they are outside of Zone one of the London Underground and considered out on a limb when we did the dry! run.
To get around the board route, you will only need a One Day Travelcard (cost March 2000 £3.90) and about £1 for a short bus journey nr Kings Cross.
You will find it beneficial to have a route planner such as the A - Z of London.
Oh yes, don't forget the money for drinks!
Ok let's GO
Optional Start point
Old Kent Road
This is one of the best known roads on the board, but out of the way for a linked route.
Located near the underground station at the Elephant and Castle, but still a short bus journey.
In Old Kent Road you will find a couple of pubs or Cafes for that early morning pick up.
Oh yes, breakfast is also served!
The pubs are temperamental as to whether they will be open at all!
Best Start Point missing out Old Kent Road
Why not start at the Riverside alongside the Thames looking at the 'London Eye' Ferris Wheel.
Via the London Underground, make your way to the Embankment station and exit on the Thames side and you can not miss the wheel.
From the Embankment, make your way up Northumberland Avenue and the first pub is on the right hand side.
The Sherlock Holmes
Opposite and to the left is a road called Great Scotland Yard, follow this until you reach Whitehall.
Then turn right and on the opposite side of the road you will see your next stop.
The Lord Moon of the Mall
Turn left out of the pub and walk up to Trafalgar Square. Look out for the pigeons.
Take the 2nd right to walk up the Strand. Keeping on the right hand side of the Strand, walk along until you reach the junction of Carting Lane. Your next stop is on the corner near the Savoy hotel.
The Coal Hole
A Vodka and Wine Bar
Turning right out of the bar continue along the Strand crossing over to be on the left hand side.
Turn left into Wellington street and as you walk up Wellington street it turns into Bow Street.
At the junction of Wellington Street / Bow Street and Russell street is the next stop.
Marquess of Anglesey
This is in theatre land and very close to Covent Garden, but do not get tempted to stop off as more sights to see.
Come out of the pub and double back on yourself to the Strand. Turn left and continue past the BBC buildings and the Royal Court of Justice.
The Strand leads into Fleet Street and you need to follow Fleet street until you see a clock face on the left hand side buildings. Near this clock you will find your next stop.
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese or The Scruffy Murphy's
A very famous old pub rebuilt in 1667 or an Irish pub
Turn left out of the pub and take a look at the top of St Paul's cathedral. Continue along the road until turning right into New Bridge street and heading for the London Underground at the Blackfriars station.
Use the London Underground via the Circle line Eastbound until you reach Tower Hill station.
Come out of the station and take a look at the Jail (the Tower of London!).
Turn right out of the underground station and walk up Coopers row where you will reach an entrance to Fenchurch Street Station. There is a bar on the platforms, but it is difficult to pass security without a ticket and may as well continue a few more metres to the next stop.
At the top of Coopers Row, turn right and along Crosswall, then turn left into Vine Street.
Again two options, but once again we find temperamental opening hours.
The Angel pub on the corner or further along the Fine Line Wine Bar
Continue to walk along Vine Street and turn right into India Street and immediate left to continue walking up Minories.
Turn right into Aldgate High Street that leads to Whitechapel High Street / Road.
Make your way along the High street, using the Subway to exit at 15 on the left hand side. Just a few yards later on the left at the junction of Goulston Street you will find the next stop.
The Aldgate Exchange Tavern
Turn right when exiting the pub and after a few retraced footsteps, take a right into Middlesex street. Walk up the street (passing the Sunday location of Petticoat lane fashion market) to Liverpool Street Station. The next stop and a good place for food is located on the left hand side of the stations entrance.
Hamilton Hall
After your drink jump onto the Underground at Liverpool Street Station and using the Central, Circle or Hammersmith and City line Westbound, take one stop to Moorgate. Change at Moorgate onto the Northern line in a northbound direction to Angel.
Come out of the Angel of Islington underground station and go straight across the traffic lights at the cross roads into Liverpool road. Just into Liverpool road on the left is the next stop.
All Bar One
Turn right out of the bar and back to the traffic lights. This time turn right at the lights and walk up Islington High Street. Up to the next junction and again turning right into Pentonville road.
Walk up Pentonville road and on the right hand side at the brow of the hill is the next pub stop.
The Pint Pot
Next it is time for a short bus journey. Come out of the pub and you need to turn right and continue along Pentonville road. Switch over to the left hand side and catch a BUS (numbers 30/73/214) to Kings Cross station.
Get off at Kings Cross Station and head for platform number 8. Alongside the platform is the next stop.
Coopers
Come back out of the station and turn right to head up Euston Road and pass the St Pancras station on your right. Just pass the St Pancras station on the left hand side of the road are 2 options as a next stop.
O'Neill's or The Euston Flyer
An Irish theme pub or a Fullers chain
Turn left out of the pub and continue to walk up Euston road, for a few hundred yards passing the Friar and Firkin pub (if you can!) and into Euston mainline and underground station which is set back off Euston road.
Take the underground from Euston main station on the Victoria line Southbound to Oxford Circus.
Optional detour to Marylebone station
We did not take this option, as we did not want to sit on the underground for too long. However you can now change and take the Bakerloo line to Baker Street, which exits onto Marylebone road (home of Madam Tussaud's). Turn right along Marylebone road and turn right into Central street where you will come to Marylebone station. On the concourse is a drink stop, formally known as
The Victoria and Albert
After retrace your steps to Oxford Circus underground station.
Continue from Oxford Circus Underground station.
Exit the underground station following the signage onto Argyll street. Walk down Argyll street away from Oxford circus passing the London Palladium.
At the bottom turn left into Great Marlborough Street. You will find the next stop straight in front of you.
The Fanfare and Firkin
Once visited, come back along Great Marlborough street passing Argyll street on your right. Cross over Regents street into Maddox street. Follow along Maddox street to junction with
New Bond Street. Turn right and admire the designer clothes that fill the shop windows.
Just off New Bond Street on the right you will find an option for the next stop. Located in Dering street.
The Duke of York pub or The Hogshead bar
Come back to cross over New Bond Street and into Blenhiem street which then leads into Woodstock street. At the junction of Woodstock street and Oxford Street you will again find drinking options.
The Woodstock or The Spread Eagle
Turn right onto Oxford Street and try to stop yourself shopping, it is valuable drinking time or even rest time later on!
Walk along Oxford street back to Oxford Circus underground station.
From Oxford Circus take the Underground on the Victoria line Southbound to Green Park and from here change onto the Piccadilly line, Westbound to Hyde park corner.
Use Exit 1 of the underground and when you reach the roadside, head behind you to Park Lane.
Use the subway to cross under Park lane and emerge at the junction of Piccadilly and Park Lane.
Walk along Piccadilly for a few hundred yards and after passing the Hard Rock Café (unless you wish to queue!), turn left into Old Park Lane. Just up on the right is the next stop.
The Rose and Crown
Turn right up Old Park Lane. As you approach the Hilton Hotel, turn right into Hertford street and follow the street until you reach the Shepard's Tavern. At the tavern, turn right into Shepard's Street and follow up to the Kings arms. Then turn left into Shepard's Market of Mayfair and your next stop is in front of you.
The Grapes
Leave the Grapes and follow the road down into White Horse street that will lead you back to Piccadilly. At Piccadilly, turn left and follow the road admiring the paintings on the railings of Green park (if not too late).
On the left hand side, just before the underground station is the next stop and time for cocktails?
You may just need a coffee here! Optional stop for food.
Henry's Café Bar
Turn left out of the bar and continue along Piccadilly crossing over to walk pass the Ritz Hotel.
After the Ritz, take the 2nd right turn into St James Street. Continue to the end of St James street and watch the guard at St James Palace gardens.
Turn left into Pall Mall and within a few yards our next stop is located on the left in the Crown Passage of Pall Mall.
The Red Lion
London's oldest village inn
Come back onto Pall Mall, turning left and continue to walk away from St James Street.
After passing turns for St James's Square, turn left up Waterloo place / Regents Street (still no pubs here!) towards Piccadilly circus.
At Piccadilly Circus, turn right into Coventry Street (home of the Trocadero centre). The next stop is on the right and if you did not have a cocktail last time, you should have one here. Again an optional food stop.
TGI Fridays
Out of TGI's and turn right towards Leicester Square.
A great place to finish with loads of options for drink, food and entertainment.
Choose yourself, but the last stop is recommended as
All Bar One
Hopefully you are still able to read the details of this route and you had a fun time visiting the sights of London, but also drinking a little.
