Off to New York in March and want some cheap clothes, any ideas?
Im told by everyone that shopping in New York, is like shopping in Oxford Street London. Does anyone know if there are any cheap designer outlets within a taxi ride?
Also, what kind of stuff/brands can i get much cheaper in NY than over here? (Im not bringing back 5 suitcases so customs should give me a break!!)

Jersey Gardens Mall is about 30 mins bus ride away (I think the bus is number 111 from gate 211 from the Port Authority bus station, but don`t quote me on that, best to verify it for yourself :D) and its about $9.50 for a return ticket.
When you get there, there`s a concierge type desk and ask them for the coupon book (with lots of discount vouchers).
There is Gap, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Saks 5th Avenue, Kenneth Cole, Bennetton, Nike, Reebok plus many many others I can`t remember. But its probably worth a trip.
Here`s the website for it: www.jerseygardens.com/
There are tons of shops in Manhatten, but the prices can be pretty expensive for some stuff. Designer clothes etc. from places like Maceys are damn expensive (even with the exchange rate as it is).
Enjoy the trip

I have just come back from New York and can highly recommend Macy`s Dept Store.
If you go to the 1st floor customer service desk, and show either your passport or photo drivers licence they give you a card which entitles you to 11% off all goods in store except perfume and makeup.
Designer clothes are so cheap you won`t believe it. I got Tommy Hilfiger Jeans, t-shirt and jumper for £50. I also got (amongst other things) a Ralph Lauren hooded top for £25. In House of Fraser the same 1 is £65.
Also, if you have an Xbox 360, go to FAO Schwarz on 5th Ave and buy the HD DVD drive for £108. They work in the uk and they have plenty in stock.

century 21 is a dept store in wall st area. imagine a post apocalyptic situation in which the only way humanity can survive is by throwing clothes around in a department store in a hunt for cheap nautica sweatshirts.. and you have a pretty good idea what it is like.
i think there are bargains in there (google it) but I went in I was resisting the urge to bludgeon someone to death with a Polo Ralph Lauren wallet and travel set after five minutes . So I left.
anyway, its all cheap in Noo Yoik. ain`t you seen the goddam exchange rate?!
also.

ha ha.. shopping in oxford st is only bad because people walk around gaping at the sky like they are witnessing a blood eclipse or something. New York is not like that. My advice to you would be, don`t dawdle..

You`ve got to go to Woodberry Commons Premium Outlet Mall - 275 stores from Ralph Lauren, Nike, Timberland, Armani, Reebok, Sony, Hilfiger - in fact just about everything.
Check out www.outletbound.com and look for NY state it`s the biggest in the country.
You can also get a discout voucher book from Information in the central lobby - near McDonalds.
