General Forum
hi dudes,
i`m planning to buy a DVD-Rom drive mainly to rip DVD`s for my brother for he`s a poor peice of crap, i`ve got my eye on a Generic drive (or at least it doesn`t have a brand) 16X drive, and was worried about Multi-Region(ing) the drive because he wants all the new films (r1) titles.
so my question, can you multi-region hack any drive with some peice of software/firmware?

First, a ROM is Read-Only Memory, so you can`t rip discs with it. You`ll need a RAM or DVD-R or DVD-RW.
Second, most drives can be modified using firmware or software. I don`t have a list or FAQ on me I`m afraid (perhaps Reviewer could have a resource page for this in their hack section?). Try a web search for "multi-region software", "DVD-ROM hack" and other such terms.
I use zone selector on my Sony DVD-ROM but I also have an MPEG-2 card.
RE: Help me with DVD-Rom
Go to www.firmware.fr.st for all things to do with pcdvd. A generic / unbranded drive could be difficult to crack because you need specific firmware for the drive. If you cannot identify the drive you may be stuck. Go to the site and browse the forum and you will get some ideas.

a make and model will be revealed to me when i get the drive, but there is no name/brand on the actual drive.
