DVD:Need help on hooking up!?!

dVdpirate (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 16th November 2001, 12:54

Can anyone help me with the following ?- I have a BUSH DVD 2008, (incidently for anyone reading this I believe that it is the same as the DVD 2004 and that home cinema combi-thing) a PHILIPS vr165 and an ancient 25" Grundig Tv with no scart input so I hook up my dvd player through my vcr to view any dvds. My question is will dvds from other regions be viewable through my tv which is pal only ? I believe that other regions playback an NTSC signal ? but while researching the player I thought it was able to playback dvds from other regions because it was hooked up through the scart cable and CVBS was selected from the options menu ? any help and advice is much appreciated because I`m new to this dvd thing !

Thanks

Most DVD players will output R1 NTSC DVDs in PAL 60 unless you have it output in NTSC.

PAL 60 is sometimes called pseudo PAL - British PAL is PAL 50. Since you say your TV is ancient it may not be able to handle PAL 60 and almost certainly not NTSC, you are stuffed!

You`ll need to buy a newer TV - all new ones can handle PAL 60 and a lot can even show NTSC too. You could buy an NTSC to PAL convertor, but it will more likely be cheaper to buy a new TV.

Do a search of the forum since there are probably a ton of similar questions that have been asked - there may be a better answer than mine!
