Do the banks offer protection......
Againsed bank transfers going bad. Im about to pay for an item via this method and was wondering if there is any comeback IF things go bad?

No info you give to do the transfer isn`t on your cheques already, so in that respect it`s not risky. But...if you`re *selling* on eBay, then bank transfer is great because you`re not subject to fraudulent chargebacks like you are with Paypal - because the buyer can`t get their money back.

So if a bt DOES go tits up a chargeback can be lodged much like a CC?

If you do a bank transfer to someone and the payment doesn`t reach them, say because an account number is a digit out or something like that, then you can contact the bank and they`ll hunt around for the payment and get it back to you eventually.
If you are paying someone for goods/services by banking transfer and there is something wrong with what you have bought you don`t have any rights to contact the bank - as has been said this is great for the seller but not good for the buyer.
