NTL users - say goodbye to Sky
Looks like the money-grabbers at Virgin have buggered it up for their customers, by failing to reach a deal with Sky to continue transmitting the Sky channels through their cable srvice. I`ll guess that the virgin bigwigs wanted to make money from the takeover straight away and attempted to reduce their outgoings. Outgoings being the amount they paid Sky to transmit their channels.
So, unless something happens soon, Virgin Media viewers will lose every channel provided by Sky.

Has this actually been confirmed, or is this just part of the recent scaremongering? I`ve been thinking of leaving Telewest for some time, partly because the quality of the TV service is terrible (mpeg blocking) and partly because the broadband service has become extremely slow (not that they`re doing any traffic shaping or throttling at all).

It was on the dinnertime news on radio 1 (newsbeat??) that it was a `possibility` that the channels could go as soon as monday if an agreement wasnt reached soon..they only mentioned Sky1 Sky 2 and sky news/sports news in the report though if I recall ...then again that is almost every sky channel isnt it?

aparently, as soon as virgin signed the ntl takeover deal, sky doubled hthere asking price for the sky 1 + 2 channels, which, tbh is shrewb of them given the package virgin have been trying to push. (4 for £40)

well, tbh, i have a very "special" ntl box for my tv, & never seem to have any picture issues, in all honesty i get the dreaded "no sattelite signal detected" message from sky quite frequently (& it`s open land where the dish is pointed) but my ntl tv never goes off, & in about 4 or 5 years, the broadband has only gone off once (for a few hours) i even tried sky broadband but because i`m not next door to an exchange, the best estimated speed i would get was only 5.1meg :( & when it was fitted, it never worked at all :/ despite all attempts, + our adsl line at work drops down to a total crawl at peak times :/ whilst i never Ever get a drop in speed.
But, a friend of mine once had problems with his ntl speed, & it turned out a few people on his street had gotten ntl broadband & an engineer had to come out & do something with the main box (the one at the end of the street) never had a problem after that :)
These problems never happened with good old analogue!! Sigh...the good old days!

RE: NTL users - say goodbye to Sky
I`d have thought any story where the two protagonists are Sky and Virgin, the bad guy is always Sky. Rupert Murdoch (or his kid) want to own the UK - or at least the media - and Richard Branson has had the temerity to challenge them. VM recently lowered the carriage costs for its Flextech channels to Sky and Sky has responded by hiking its basic package price by 100%. This is a matter of weeks since Sky bought sufficient an interest in ITV to stop Virgin taking that over.
While I consider Richard Branson a bit of a wally, I`d rather have him owning a charmingly incompetent corner of the media than Rupert Murdoch owning every platform and content provider in the country.

I`m more concerned with not being able to watch BSG and my other favourite shows TBH. I don`t watch much TV, but what I do watch is almost exclusively on Sky One nowadays...

Or the money-grabbers at Sky bumping up the price?

Indeed. Looks like the welfare of their customers are way down the agenda for both these companies
