Crooks at Royal Mail....??

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Friday, 13th April 2007, 00:08

I`ve ordered a few items off Ebay recently and to cut a long story short I basically have not received them both. The first one was a DVD boxset which I paid for immediately. A few days later the seller emailed me to say that he has posted it to me. A few weeks after that I still had not received it. Now , this Ebayer was legit in the way that his feedback score was something like 4000+ with a percentage score of 99.8% . Even so I filed a dispute and received my money back from him. Just to let you know I still have not received it.

A few days after paying for this item I purchased some blank DVD`s on Ebay again via the `Buy It Now` option. I still have not received this item. I emailed him a few days ago to ask where discs where and he stated that he sent them a few days after I paid. I have just received another email from him asking if I have received them yet....I replied back with a `No` answer! He then sent me another email saying that he has had a few problems and disputes with Royal Mail these past few days and - fair play to him - has offered me my money back if I have not received the discs by Monday. Something rings true with this as I`ve been wondering this past week or so if someone from the sorting offices or whatever are pilfering parcels!?!

If the Royal Mail are indeed robbing the public how do I go about making complaints? Would they be legitable complaints? It`s not as if these items were sent via recorded delivery...just standard 1st class.

I am NOT ordering anything on the internet until this sorts itself out.......!!

Has anyone else had any problems?

Lol! The first seller is based in Manchester. The second in Portsmouth!?!

I`ll go and compose an email to these sellers now.....

`Dear Mr Seller , Please ignore my previous emails demanding my money back as it`s been brough to my attention that these parcels have fallen into the hands of scousers. Seeing as we are all robbing scum who have curly hair , taches , parade around Church Street in kappa trackie`s saying `Calm Down Calm Down` at the top of our voices , eat rats in our council houses , are totally unemployable incompetents and reek of p***! Keep it , keep it all and please accept my apologies.`

Yes, shock horropr, the Royal Mail is rife with thieves helping themselves to DVDs, CDs and games that pass through their hands every day, although it tends to be rare.

Over the years I`ve bought hundreds of such things through eBay and only a handful failed to reach me. Each time I was reimbursed by the seller, luckily (often at their own expense but occassionally through their postal insurance).

In December I sold a game on Amazon and despatched it the day the buyer paid, only to find Amazon taking the money back from me in February because the buyer requested a refund due to non-delivery. That hurt as I lost a game that I was selling plus the £25 that I got for it.

Complain away. The louder the better. But it is typical of the state of the country today.

With Ebay I only ever buy stuff that is sent out recorded delivery or I can pick up - you can always ask the seller to send stuff via recorded and they usually do - same with selling stuff - always send everything out via Recorded or Special Delivery. Only had a few things go missing but I always insure the item over its real value so eventually get reimbursed.

But suppose it all depends on who your postie is. We have a new one who is s***e. Recorded Delivery stuff he just either sticks through the letter box or leaves in the porch - so have reported him a couple of times.

I had the same problem but it did get solved. Some of the items were returned but others are still missing. You can read about the whole sorry episode here.

No-one told me anything so I don`t know what happened! I got some of the stuff back but others, including that pack of discs from Sue, are still unaccounted for. Nothing has gone missing since so I assume they caught the party/parties responsible and sacked/charged them.

This kind of thing happens in the US too. It didn`t happen too much a year or so ago, but I suppose I have a steady stream of packages which are obviously discs. For the most part though the discs I order are not region 1 so unless the theives or their customers have multiregion players, the discs will do them no good.

None of my packages have disappeared lately, but I suppose they have learned not to grab packages not from amazon.com or some other US dvd retailer.

What got my goat was when I filed a complaint, the person behind the customer service desk said, what`s the problem? Why was I going through the trouble of reporting a loss? She told me I could order another disc. I told her that it wasn`t fair to the retailer. It`s not their fault the item was lost.

You would think they would show more concern about a missing item or atleast put on a show of concern even if they don`t mean it. Damn bureacracy! Our mail gets misdelivered all the time. I get letters for people one street away and not even the same house number! So there is something wrong with the postal service anyway you look at it. Add insult to injury, they`re raising postage rates in a few weeks. You watch in a few months time the postal workers will threaten a strike because they feel their wages are too low.
