Currys not honouring a deal

jean88 (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 4th October 2007, 14:37

Need to know where I stand there. 4 weeks ago we bought an american fridge,an oven and hob. We paid the full amount on the day and told the employee that we will let them know when we would need it delivered as we were waiting for a fitted kitchen to be delivered. Went today to Currys, they have got the oven and hob in stock to be delivered in 2 weeks time but the fridge is out of stock. Waiting list of about 80 just in the area, so we probably talking hundreds around the country. So according to the manager it is very unlikely that we will get the fridge now. The kitchen was kind of design around the fridge (american fridge). The manager will be talking to another manager tomorrow and let me know what they decide. I told him today that I will not settle for a refund, but they would have to provide me with another model, as good or better. Where do I stand with that, the manager told me that the sales person should have booked a provisional delivery date to reserve the fridge at the warehouse.
Thanks for any tips/help or whatever
JC

Have you tried getting the same fridge elsewhere ???
Most websites tell you if they`re in stock or not.
You`ll probably get it cheaper than Currys too,so spend the saving on a next day delivery.
Seems a bit daft to put all your eggs in a Currys` basket.
80 people in your area, waiting for the same fridge ?
That sounds like a right cock and bull story to me.
I mean,what`s the chances ?
Unless it chucks out golden ice-cubes. :/

The mind boggles as to what`s in the ice cube trays to make golden ice cubes. :/

Well the fridge was reduced from £700 to £499, I guess it got very popular at the time. Found another one at Electrical365.com for an extra £100. We`ll see what Currys has to say tomorrow.

I must admit,I never pay for anything before it`s in stock.
Too many stories of companies folding and you end with sweet fanny adams.. :(

Bowfer, again you speak without knowing facts mate.
The likelihood of 80 people waiting on one of these frides/freezers is probably very high.

Once during my stint there one FF was oversold by 1000 units in Scotland alone, never mind the English delivery centres.

Jean, chances are you won`t be the only one complaining. First thing is give the store a chance, if they can do something they will. If they can`t, next step is to take it to customer services.

I`d go down the line of the money being paid, the order all confirmed on the night and not your fault the order wasn`t placed with the LDC.
Again, chances are there will be many others countrywide that will have similar issues.

If you wanna PM me with the make model and product code of the unit (that`s the six digit number on the same line as the unit) and the store involved (to make sure I`m not going to look like a right tit talking to the guy that`s the manager of that store...) I`ll ask a couple of mates if they have any info on what`s happening with them.

From experience I would say that Buying Dept. will probably be trying to hammer out a deal with the manufacturers to get more stock at the same price in a bulk one-off deal.
This though, may take a few weeks to get the stock manufactured and into the country then on to you.

Jimbo, thanks very much for the offer. I will let you know what is happening tomorrow. If the outcome looks bad I will PM you with the details (not sure how to do that actually). I am ready to wait for it as the kitchen will probably be fitted around end of October, and we don`t mind keeping the old fridge for now. BTW, they even charged me for delivery as according to them it takes 4 guys to deliver the beast.

It`s called having an opinion Jimbo. :p
IMO,80 people waiting for the same fridge from one store sounds highly unlikely.
If a salesman told me that,I`d laugh and walk away to buy it elsewhere.
The bloke might be telling the truth,I couldn`t care less.
