are "modified" cable boxes still available?

KaTz (Elite) posted this on Friday, 19th October 2007, 14:32

Hi
Ive got sky digital. but remember in the days of analogue when one could "obtain" cable boxes which were chip-ped to view all channels.
Are these still around, and do they work with digital cable?
Thx

Yes they are, I know of a few people that have them, we don`t get cable in our area.

They do have problems with them from time to time, the boxes get blocked and have to be reset, and of course there is a charge.

One mate got so fed up with his box getting blocked every 6 weeks or so he just went back to sky. He said cable was rubbish, picture not as good and software hard to get on with and very slow, he just stayed because he got all the channels for the price of the basic package, when it worked.

All the best

Gerald.

i have a nokia dbox 2 & it works fine, not updated the software for about 18months, so have lost some channels (could probably figure out how to update the spftware myself, but canna be bothered :) )

i think the dbox mark1 does the same thing as the mark 2, & they are on ebay for around the £70 mark (delivered)

Don`t get a Dbox or a Dbox2 - they can be about 10 years old now so good ones are hard to find.

If you like tinkering and can use basic FTP/networking get a Dreambox - very stable and quick. If not, get a Eurovox/Euromax - basic, simple telly!

The Eurovox Max V 2008. I`ve heard they work fine and auto-update.
Yes you need to have a cable into your house.. Believe it or not you don`t always even need to be a subscriber... :o You generally do though - but it can be for just broadband..
